Minding my own at work for the last 7hours - Listing to some loud GOA and chilling with a few fags and coffee.

Then all of a sudden 50mins ago 3geeks walked into the room and started working on some of the other computers to change some software or some shit...

Damn I hope I'll never ever become this geeky IRL.
6 in the morning saying "FFS, LOL, TARD, PWNED" to your mates... I understand saying stuff like that while playing and talking to your INGAME friends via ts or ventrillo etc. But while being at work? Close to strangers? AT 6 IN THE MORNING?!

What I am trying to ask is: Do any of you guys talk geekish while being around other people?

Sure I do, but it very much depends on whom I am talking to and the situation. I don't go and say "LOL" etc randomly, sounds pretty retarded.

When you play games as much as I do you're bound to use gaming referances and terms anyways.

I personally dont, but I dont really see the problem with people being like that - Everyone goes on about kids these days acting like chavs and generally being irresponsible, then when a group acts like 'nerds' and 'geeks' without causing harm to anyone else they get slated for it.

You would prefer them being in the carpark taking the hubcaps off of your car then?

'Nerds' and 'geeks' are, imo, a very important class of todays society. They work hard and are bloody amazing when it comes to troubleshooting - ever see a nerd give up on a computer problem? no, and most of the time you wont, because nerds and geeks are almost always committed problem solvers, who will work - sometimes to stupid extremes - to find out wtf was going wrong with that server, or why that code wasnt working as expected, etc etc.

I know, its a bit amusing to the rest of us who dont live in that sort of world, but having had a glimpse of that life I have to say that theres alot to be said for it. As long as they're having fun, not hurting anyone else, then whats the problem?

and the Bible was translated wrong when going from Latin to English (as at the time the monk doing the translating didnt know what the word meant) and its the geeks who will inherit the earth, not the meek.

So watch your mouth, or you'll spend eternity mining silicon for their new supercluster mega computer.

Depends on company, there was a spell when my group of friends used it in a joking way for a while but novelty wore off pretty quickly

Personally i dont see your problem with it, its no different to whatever slang you use with your friends. To an outsider things you say are just as ridiculous

Well I do agree with you guys. I also say lol etc when I am with my gaming friends. But damn you would never ever hear me say it in the same room as "normal" people haha.

I've made that mistake a few times, people telling really funny jokes.. Me laughing then saying 'lol' afterwards :(

'normal'' people wont know what you are talking about so its a bit hypocritical of you to judge them,
the only people who would know what they are talking about is gamers, and you as a gamer are calling them geeks ;)

As i said before its no different from someone listening in on your conversation with your friends and thinking wtf

About the closest I come to this is muttering "FFS" at work because I can do it in front of customers and then act like it's a computer term for something.

Although I have started sayings "waddafak" in some kind of pseudo-Korean accent, which annoys me a lot. Stupid brain :(

Friend of mine starting saying "lol" instead of just laughing. That makes me wonder, hehe.

Caught myself a couple of years ago asking someone why they'd gone afk after they left a room....

Oh :( I usually use "BRB" if I'm going to the bathroom or something.. The AFK thought has passed my mind a few times.

I don't know why it's AFK for IRL though, as I don't tend to carry a keyboard around with me. (Yes, I've used IRL when speaking too :S)

well, they were a couple of people comming in right? Bet they had a blast - maybe they were trying to freak you out - maybe they game together and therefore speak like this. maybe they are just really geeky! in any case its fine, people who use slag, wether it be a geek or a pimp, should be able to do it freely with no questions cept: What does it mean?, being asked
