13%, but the test is really weird... having a decent memory and not being totally ignorant about computer stuff makes you a geek? right.

I got 38.8% ! Major geek!
And I am the least geeky of all of you. :(
It's not my fault I like rubix cube's, and puzzles, have won at trivial pursuit alot and know over 10 games of cards (granted the majorities are variation of poker or other gambling games:eek:).

Somewhere round 8%, as a game dev...

But come on! Who doesn't want a REAL light saber, to be a superhero and to dominate the world.

And everyone has built some kind of a nuclear bomb right? :eek7:

37.86% - Major Geek :(

I have to be quite geeky for my job though (know a fair amount of maths and chemistry) and was really geeky as a kid. For my 10th birthday I got the Dorling Kindersley Encyclopedia of Science and read it from cover to cover about 10 times. Ditto Lord of the Rings.

Right because it's so hard to google it anyway even if he doesn't know.

Anyone can go into Google and copy & paste the first page they see.

But it takes someone who REALLY knows their maths to be able to describe Ito's Lemma without assuming that the reader has a PhD understanding in applied stochastic calculus.

It is used to calculate differential equations (basically, the rate of one thing changing with respect to another for example the price of a stock option changing with respect to time) where the changing variable has a component which is random. Although it won't provide the solution it shows whether a solution is possible - you have to get the solution using mostly guesswork and then use that to prove it right.

Mostly used in Finance for stock prices etc as part of the Black-Scholes model.

In work, and trying to remember finance lectures so that may sound VERY basic (and most likely wrong knowing my memory)... :)

Yup. That's what the first page in google told me a minute ago.

In SIMPLE terms though; It's a calculation thing, used to calculate changing random things like stock prices.

Not really no.

Elisera, your memory serves you well ! (sounds like a Star Wars quote)

Other than college academics, the people that use Ito's Lemma on a regular basis are quantitative analysts. In investment banks, these guys can easily earn USD 1.7m a year (or around GBP 1m).

I personally wouldn't have a problem being known as a "dorky git" if I was paid a million pounds a year...

All ya gotta do is do applied mathematics to PhD level.

As I'm a geologist not a stockbroker, and have never studied finance, I'm unlikely to be dealing with maths related to share price variance over time.

I do however deal with Darcy's law etc, related to groundwater flow, and flow of dense and light non-aqueous phase liquids within aquifers (for example monitoring contamination plumes from diesel spills in unconfined aquifers)

Where:
Total discharge = Q
Hydraulic conductivity = K
Cross-sectional area to flow = A
Hydraulic head = H
Two measurable points = a and b
Distance between a and b = L

Needless to say, even though I use maths on a fairly regular basis, I'm not very good at it, but just because I can't quote some obscure law doesn't mean you should belittle what I do know.
