How the hell did you work it out using those numbers then? Also, it doesn't take a genuis to know 127.0.0.1 == Localhost.

Is binary for the word localhost as I was asking for an IP address it wasn't a huge leap from there.

It was frustrating seeing localhost posted without the IP address, I knew someones thunder was gonna get robbed.

Its binary, anyone who has done a computer course higher than GCSE will know of it. Basically whenever you see people typing out sets of 1's and 0's, usually in sets of eight, it is binary code.

The idea being that an 8-digit binary number is converted into a decimal number. That decimal number will correspond to an ascii code, so checking against an ascii table will give you a letter for that decimal number.

For example, the first set of 8 digits in mojo's original question were "01101100".

Converting from binary into decimal is easy, but boring:

First you write out a set of numbers (some people do this in thier heads).
128

1

Then you put the binary number against this:

0 128
1 64
1 32
0 16
1 8
1 4
0 2
0 1

Then add up the total of the numbers which have a '1' next to them:

64+32+8+4(=108)

So, we now have our decimal number - 108, this corresponds to the ascii character 'L' (lower case).

You then move on to the next set of 8 numbers in the original binary numbers, and put them against the set of 8 above, find the decimal number and then find the ascii character, and eventually you end up with "localhost"

Some cheats use prebuilt binary to ascii generators, but any hardcore geek will tell you that people who do this are 01001110 01001111 01001111 01000010 01010011 !!!
