The GDI+ bug is a security vulnerability in Microsoft's GDI+ engine (essentially "the one that draws pretty pictures") which means a carefully-crafted JPEG image can be used to run arbitrary code on your computer.
On any sensible operating system, this would only require a patch for the affected DLL. However, on Windows you have to download a patch for each and every affected bit of software. This includes pre-SP2 versions of Windows, along with Office, Project, Visio, Visual Studio, OneNote and a heap of other programs.
GDI had a real lack of static anti-tank towers if I remember right. NOD had the cannons and the laser pillars (can't remember what they were called) which were pretty powerful.
I remember my friend building a massive line of the laser towers from his base to mine. Was pretty nasty!
Ahh the good ole, build a line of sandbags and place obelisks of light along it all the way to the GDI base. Worked the other way around as well, although GDI never had anything as powerful as the Obelisk.
