GCSE History : Modern Ireland

Hey, just doing my modern ireland coursework and it's on the lead up to the troubles and why they broke out. Has anyone esle done this ? my brother did but he deleted his so cant remember shit. I wondered if anyone else could drop me a few hints for it.

how modern is modern?
im currently doing about the Ulster troubles, but at the start of the 19thC, and when initial plans where made to allow irish home rule, but Ulster didnt want this and bought arms and was prepared to fight...
Im doing this at AS level, but can help if u need....

no we havent done tht
but simple argument is tht the IRA wanted to use it as propaganda to recruit, gain financial backing, increase support around the world..
whereas the british forces would have wanted to make it seem better thn it was in order to keep control, stop people helping the IRA and damage limitation. frm wat i read quickly it seems the paras also made up the fact tht there was both nail bombs and alot of armed people.

mostly make sure u use sources well, who they were written by is important baised etc, when..soon after is likley to be more precise but not always, and why where they written? was it to get support or to record the event.
im guessing its 50% source based and 50% knowledge? but change the essay in proportion to this, make sure it flows well and dont seperate into sources and own knowledge, mix thm, use soures to back up your points.
(this is what we are tought atm, this is AS level, maybe a bit to high but should b ok. remember to make a point, thn explain it and use a source to back it up when needed) - check with ur teacher though, i dont want to be leading u in the wrong direction.

You mean your actully thought what happend over here in school Oo? i guess tho that lke it is over here...its biased over there....we're thought oh dam britan invaded us nd were bad an all that.....whats it like on your side?

I learnt in school that Irish make everything out of potatos and eat nothing but potatos..and lepricorns hide pots of gold at the end of rainbows!

well we're tought both sides of the story, we're shown sources from both witnesses and army officers to try and make a view of the days actions for ourselves. We dont have stuff drummed in to make us political machines
