I thought it was very good. Kept me entertained throughout the film.
There is a lot of violence and at times can be quite gruesome.

Daniel Day-Lewis was superb as "The Butcher"

Amazing experience, shame about Dicaprio. Daniel Day Lewis is outstanding in this. Well worth a watch or adding to the collection.

Good film, although
I'm a little confused about its message (if any). Seems to show the people in that area being complete arseholes to be honest, and the bit at the end when the US Navy shells them from the harbour appears completely justified.

I thought GoNY was a well below average Martin Scorsese film. Sure thats better than most directors but there was nothing in this film to make it come close to Goodfella's, Raging Bull or Casino (and others). The fight scenes were unoriginal / nothing special, Daniel Day-Lewis well I'd prefer to say O.T.T than over-acting and lets not mention DeCaprio who looked like the equivalent of a 19th century spotty teenager trying to be Ali-G than some tough guy brought up on the streets bent on revenge.

I was expecting the movie to be more rough and down to real ... but it is just another fairytale albeit a sad one. The sad moment being the way that Irish got killed en masse for no reason :(

I just watched it last night, and I wasn't really very impressed. Certain scenes stand out as memorable (the opening march to the fight from the caves, the knife throwing sequence, the scenes in the nicer districts of New York), but apart from those, there isn't really anything to tie the story together.

The ending just didn't make any sense to me whatsoever, I was actually glad when the film ended.
