You might remember I moved to a laptop from a big rig a couple of years ago because discrete gfx cards cost the earth at the time and it was easier to carry to a friend's house.

It has been a bit funny about parts and I've had to change memory sticks a couple of times otherwise it wouldn't boot. Not even a POST screen. Power light comes on but no fan noise, no display. It has been down to one 16GB stick for a few months as it wouldn't boot with any others. Now it won't boot with just that one.

I'm probably going to go through the drama of opening it (which is a fucker as it needs prising tools and has 10 tiny screws) and trying different sticks in different slots tonight.

However, it got me thinking. What is the matter with it that it is such a fussy, flaky bitch? Any electronics experts want to hazard a guess?

(It's a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Ryzen 7 RTX 3070)

Have you tried booting it without the battery? I used to find some of the work Lenovo machines used to have issues when the battery was on the way out.

One bonus with Lenovo is the repair service is pretty solid. I had a very old android tablet which went sideways and the repairs weren't extortionate like I was expecting.

Yeah, think it went over to somewhere in Germany, came back completely sorted. This was a while ago and no guarantees and all that but by comparison to other warranty stuff I found it really good

From memory you register the product then it's a wizard to see what the cost will likely be
Won't let me do it. Can only create a ticket if it's in warranty. If it's not it asks you to locate a Service Centre to take it to then tells me there aren't any within 500 miles of me and it won't let me extend the search (not that that would help really).

Seems a bit shit :/

That sucks, wasn't like that when I used it last, guess it's changed a bit

Gonna have to look for a local computer repair shop :(

(I tried it with the battery disconnected and plugged into power. I tried it with all memory sticks in different slots. No joy)
