Hi I need to pick you collective brains again, this time for a laptop.

I'm looking to spend between £600 - £700 on a decent gaming laptop. Im moving the length of the country and my old trusty PC is too big and cumbersome to make the journey so I thought I'd buy a nice laptop (You didnt need to know that but hey I like to share).

Any advice will be greatfully recieved.

I would advise a desktop over a laptop for gaming. If you play games, you'll need to be at a desk anyway. Battery life and gaming aren't compatible and you'll need a mouse to play nearly anything.

Don't be a laptop gay for gaming Paul. Why not upgrade your PC and with the money you save, pay a dirty man to drive it to your new place?

Ditch your current PC, order a new one when you get to your new place. You wont get anything amazing for £700, but you should be able to build a rig that handles 99% of games on decent settings. You'll also get a lot more for your money than you would by buying a lappy.

Yep, gaming on a laptop is always shit (even if it apparently has a nice graphics card in it). Build a nice desktop when you get there imo.

I roll with one of these that I brought for £300 of a mate a year ago.

Play.com - Buy Acer Aspire 6530 - 704G25Bn / AMD Turion RM-70 2.0GHz / 4GB / 250GB / 16 inch / Blu-ray / Vista Home Premium / Laptop / Notebook (LX.AUS0X.142) online at Play.com and read reviews. Free delivery to UK and Europe!

Its my main PC and while not amazing its miles better than the desktop it replaced, meets my gaming needs nicely and is fairly portable which is important when your a student and move houses a lot.

Only now with the prospect of getting a car on the horizon does owning a desktop start to be an attractive option again.

Personally I would recommend you look at Dell machines, pretty much the only brand that I know of that none of the people I know have not had any problems with.

I pretty much have what Jeros has and it cost me 1100 euros new 2 years ago, it's really fast but a desktop for the same pricerange would have been 2x as good and most gaming laptops are battery hogs and overly big

Unless you spend over £800 I doubt you will get a decent graphics card. Even then it will get hot playing games and you have limited upgrade possibilities in a years time etc.

As others have said Aph3x, waste of money which you'll regret quite quickly.

You are better of building or buying a PC once you've moved. Or shipping it.

I spent £60 on mine, and i'm aware it probably wont last long but it does the job for now.

For about £750 i got an i7 cpu, good motherboard, ok gfx card, nice 22" monitor, 6gb ram, 1tb hdd, keyboard/mouse and a good psu and case.

You can spend about £500 and get a PC which runs every game on max graphics pretty much.

But like the others said, stay away from buying a laptop for gaming unless you travel a lot

If you get a halfway decent laptop, you could make sure that it's capable of using an eGPU.

DIY eGPU experiences

An external gfx card attached by an expresscard adapter.
