Rogue Squadron for the Gamecube looked mad, lets hope it reaffirms my faith in star wars games, which was shattered by the phantom menance franchise ;)

Dunno about the rest of the games, or whether i will get a Gamecube itself tho. N64 put me off their consoles, what was it... 4 or 5? good games for it over its entire lifecycle ?

Im still hoping the PS2 starts getting a good range of games, i remember when the PS1 came out buying a Saturn over one to the fact that at the time there were bugger all good PS games, of course... it turned out differently.

Import deals for jap gamecubes seem very reasonable atm.
Seen one that gives u console, joypad, mem card, wave race and luigis mansion for £309.
This assumedly does exclude customs and excise import tax though? (17.5% [like vat] IIRC?) - which'd add a good £60+

Depends if you can sneak it through customs really.

It does sound like a good deal though.

From our old friends Lik Sang I believe.

Clearly the best gaming to be had is to come home after a night out getting mullered (in one form or another) and sit down with 4 other fucks and pummel them at your choice of game.

Me m8's ain't into computers/games. In truth they think im a big kid for it, but hey.

I thought nobody else liked SFA2. Too technical and non-flashy for all my friends :/

k... My american perspective on this:

1. Nintendo made their last great console with the SuperNES. It had some of the best RPG's ever made.

2. Sega's Genesis/Mega Drive/CD had the best sports games and shooters bar none (even compared to those out now).

3. The PSX had great everything, but it also had a glut of shitty games too (Criticom and the like).

4. The Sega Saturn could have been an excellent console, it was just too hard to program for. The original games made for it blow away almost anything Sony or Nintendo can muster.

5. The Dreamcast could have made it huge, but something didn't happen right. (Still trying to figure that one out...)

6. The N64 had fewer good titles than the Saturn. Zelda and Mario 64 were cool, but the concepts were done already on the PSX.

I stopped buying consoles with my PSX in 1995. I've played on everything short of a PS2 though.

agreed

Dunno, didn't have a Megadrive.

3. The PSX had great everything, but it also had a glut of shitty games too (Criticom and the like).

So true :)

Saturn has some fantastic games. Some of the rare import titles are already selling for huge sums. Try getting a copy of Radiant Silvergun ! (great game btw)

5. The Dreamcast could have made it huge, but something didn't happen right. (Still trying to figure that one out...)

It wasn't PSX. The public didn't want it :/

Yup.

I'd blame Sega's loss on the DC on crap advertising (Hint: show the games, its what entices people) and the fact it was a 'shot in the dark' to most, who saw the saturn lose out to the PSX (and as such, the PS2)

Poor DC, it had some ereet games, esp. multiplayer (PSO, Powerstone, PenPen, et al)

Actually the Saturn adverts showed the games and the PSX ones just projected an image sort of gubbins. We all know what happened there. Game footage may entice the reasonably knowledgable gamer but to get real mass market appeal you have to appeal to the scrubs more than the gamers. After all the gamers will have read reviews of the games anyway and won't be swayed by advertising much.

Does that make sense ? :)

Nah, Sega fucked up by pushing the online capabilities to a market (particularly the UK) which was not ready for it.

Face it, only geeks like you and I play games online don't we?:p

The marketing was also very poor and shit like sponsoring Arsenal footie shirts was a poor choice.

I also remember that tha release price of £200 was a bit steep. Maybe £100 (as it is now) would have got the boxes into homes and blocked the advance of that behemoth known as Sony.

Sega deserve everything they got out of the debacle, but poor sods like me who have a Dreamcast do not.:(

Still, most of the games I do have for my DC are pretty much classics in their own right.

/Now, if only they released Samba de Amigo with the marracas.

Current beat em up we play is Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on the DC. Makes SFA2 seem as simple as Tetris.

Top stuff :)

lo all :D

best multiplayer console game has to be ISS Pro Evolution2 on the PS, followed by GoldenEye

Best single player game on a console? hmm Resident Evil was a revelation (i bought a PS for that game hehe) first game to actually make me jump too, and feel a little scared  (until i got the shotgun ;) ). Zelda on the Nin64 was cool never did complete it tho, Metal Gear was v.good but a little streamlined.
The DC was a BIG dissapointment for me :( lots of nice 15 minute blast arcade conversions but none with any depth - except Phantasy Star but that was boring offline andd way too easy anyway, Crazy Taxi and V.tennis were cool.

GC looks cool but you cant really beat on-line gaming and cool multiplayer console games when you can hook up with your m8s :)

ISS Pro 43ver :)
