cheers lads, I think I'll be buying this more for nostalgia than anything. Seems a bit odd saying that about one of the "big 3" :(.

It has been mentioned on here about a month ago that the dixons group are moving away from the GC, now they've dropped their console prices, and most of their GC games are £25 according to their webby... seem reasonable to believe they're pulling out to me.

Dixons have announced themselves that they are pulling out. They hope this price cut will increase interest in the console.

Unlikely tbh. Nintendo need to sort out the time it takes to release the PAL versions of their games.

mmm....that would help it in a big way....Getting more titles out for it and im sure it would sell more its nice to see the price cut...though.

Never regretted getting my GC. Prime out here next week, SMB2 out now, and Zelda out in 6 weeks?

Yummeh :D

PS: The new GBA SP is schweet. Played one with Four Swords on it. Seriously fucking tempted tbh :)

bah

Argos : £79.99 for a cube, a game AND a memory card :(

makes me glad i didn't actually pay for my own cube...

I just can't understand it though... the Cube lineup is getting stronger and stronger this year, with a pretty much invincible lineup - and NOW they're pulling out...!?

The user base isn't big enough, plus Nintendo are normally ackward to work with demanding various things and not very giving.

Gamecube in ARGOS

You'll be hard pressed to find any ARGOS stores with them actually in stock ... GAME stores will of course price match where competitors have them in-stock and at a lower price.

i've heard of a lot of GAME stores refusing to pricematch this deal.

argos are getting a shitload of stock later today, so if GAME won't play ball, you know what to do.

Print this page out and threaten to PM Kieron until you get your discount GC?

Isnt that kind of useless anyway -- note the fact Game will only pricematch if the competitor has it IN STOCK -- ie if you cant find it at Argos then Game are equally useless to try -- and if you CAN find it in Argos then why would you bother going to the hassle of getting Game to pricematch (Ive yet to find any shop who are "happy" to pricematch -- Id rather buy from the deal designers)

why go back to GAME?

We have to put the proviso on that the competitor has to have in stock as they may (for example) be clearing out stock at below cost - or just advertising an offer (that they can't fulfill) to hurt us or someone else with a price match policy.

Why buy from GAME? Well - (hopefully)

- we'll have more games in stock that you'll want
- you may want to trade in old titles towards the price
- the no quibble 10 day return guarantee
- & reward points just to name a few

:) (sorry am on the payroll!)

But of course at the end of the day you as a customer are free to buy from wherever is most convenient & suitable for you.

All the best

just been up to a comet, near coventry.

I was asking about the discontinuing of GC, and the salesman told me it was a decision taken a few months ago (a little too soon, he said).

They are replacing the GC with the new GBA in their stores.

He also told me that the final selloff will be over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, where Gamecube games will be cut to a tenner!

Kieron it was the implication in your post that I was pointing out and objecting to --- saying if its not in stock then come to Game and then immediately mentioning price matching as tho to say you would get as good a deal --- and only then happening to mention a fact that meant no you wouldnt get that deal.

Atm the likes of Game offer poor value in buying the base cube -- although they are hopefully staing in the ninty markey so the other factors you mentioned like games may well come into play for future custom --- even though Id usually buy online anyway rather than pay exorbitant high street prices !

sure understand where you're coming from - difficult for us as we want to stay selling GameCubes whilst everyone else seems to be leaving the market! :)

Hmm cant be the beginning of the end of the GC already can it? :(

Pretty shocked tbh, I remember all the doomsayers and anti-M$ ppl on here saying the X-Box was tits up months ago...didnt think the GC would get a battering first.

Sony will be laughing anyway.

Hmm what is it about the consoles I choose to buy -- first Dreamcast and now this ! --- perhaps console manufacturers would pay me NOT to buy their gear ;)

Oh Yes... The PriceMatch

that would be were the game staff glare at you and treat you like absolute shit because you dared to go into another shop that sells games - cheaper than them at that.... not take your word that it's cheaper in said other shop, not take your word that it's in stock... and send a RUNNER to the other shop to go look... (hmv, opposite game)

then have said runner come back and say "they don't have any in stock" so you buy it in game at its original price and say "oh well"

go home... play game... have friend come over... "oh you bought halo... cool init! where'd you buy it? you know we had it for £34.99 yeh?"

"yeh but i went to game to pricematch it so i could get points, they went to have a look and said you didn't have any more stock"

"lying c*nts"

says it ALL. what kinda customer service is that? not bought a thing from that branch ever since.

while you're here kieron, you can tell us why games in your store typically cost £5 more than they do off your website? the website's game... the shop's game... what's the DEAL? when it was EB the prices were the same on both.

Hi Wolfeeh

Thanks for your comments & sorry the service you received was not as good as it should have been. I obvioulsy can't get into the detail of your experience here so I suggest that you give customer services a call and they should be able to sort something out for you their number is 0870 750 2743.

We do sell some titles online at different prices to in-store, this reflects a different cost structure e.g. we don't need to pay rent on the shop, have staffing to the same extent etc etc also we are very aware of our online competitors and want to offer as good a deal as we can to customers.

All the best

Kieron
