Hi all

I used to have crashing to desktop problems every 1h45mins because I ran gamecam all the time, and like clockwork it always crashed to desktop for no apparent reason with the same GamecamDLL error.

Well, the new version of Gamecam v1.3.0.2 has fixed the problem. So if you were having problems before - maybe give the new version a go :>

Tonight was the first time in about 6 months where I haven't had to log off and log back in again every 1h45mins, and I'd usually forget and the game would instacrash to desktop :/

So, touch wood, everything fine with this new version :p

i think fraps has to be the way to go.

if u record in full screen mode u get like real clarity even after edit. was doing some testing with it the other day.

gamecam is not as good.

Yup fraps is very nice - but you need masses of hard drive space for the captured files and also you have to start capturing when you "think" you might have a fight.

In Gamecam you have a 60/90/120 second cache that doesn't use any hard drive space that compresses clips "on the fly", so you run around, suddenely get into a fight, and then after the fight you think "wow - wish I had that recorded" - and you do! Press a button and the last 60/90/120 seconds of action is saved in a weeny 20-30mb file :>

I actually have both registered versions and at the moment prefer gamecam, and at 1024x768 settings, 60fps and quality setting, it's pretty damn good :>

i run fraps as soon as i leave the keep or get off a boat, stop it when i die, if i didnt capture anything worthwhile i just delete it at the end of the night i snip the bits i want and save them as uncomressed AVI's. its hassle at times but its the best way imo, when i make a movie i usually have around 50 gigs of material (un-comressed)
Cant say i can tell the difference if i am running fraps or not, i used to get kick in lag with some of the older versions but now i have to alt tab sometimes to make sure its recording.

Eeeeek :> 50 gigs :) After about 3 months of recording clips, I usually have about 8gb to trawl through, but I've become a lot less trigger happy, now it takes something real good to get recorded as I cba going through so much recorded stuff :>

And I tried the tv card recording thing and recording on another computer, but after trying 2 or 3 tv cards, the quality was bad, and also it didn't quite capture the screen properly.

The only draw back is the bigger the captured screen size, (this is for fraps and gamecam), I find it just starts to judder like a powerpoint presentation :) so at 1024 it is bearable, but at 1280, the framerate button goes permanently yellow.

Raven - what spec PC do you have? I found in fraps I get the same drop in fps the better the quality. My PC is 2gb RAM ^^ AMD3200+ 6800GT Fast SATA HDs + Normal HD with paging files / game / recorded clips on different hard drives. Maybe in about a year or 2 I'll be able to record clips with no affect on gameplay :>

gamecam>fraps imo.
fraps saved files are simply too big, and even when twisting recording settings, fraps makes me lag when playing, gamecam doesn't. and the quality is ok.

I prefer fraps tbh.

I have 1.2tb of hdd space on this pc so large files doesn't bother me at all. When doing NS part 2 i had 80-120gb of recordings in a folder :D

Actually, you need only one key in GC - start/stop record. You can disable all others.

GC is cool but what attracted me to it initially was it was free but they changed that so nevermind, use Fraps now. I think that my 10GB hard-drive isnt big enough for Fraps though as I keep getting Windows QQ'ing about being outta disk space..so might try GC again, although can pick up a large SATA instead for cheap bucks..

I should get some sponsorship from gamecam :>

The new version of gamecam basically you go into it and have to press 2 keys to do every instruction. (Press and hold the first key then tap the 2nd)

I have taken pretty much every key off, leaving the "Home" key as the main first key that you have to press (the default is / which for DAOC users is not good) and then I have 1 key for "start the cache" which is the up arrow, and one for "save the last 60/90/120 seconds" which is the down arrow.

In theory you could get away with 3 keys, you might need one to turn sound recording on - stick that on the numpad, so 4 keys and you should be ok :>

saphire radion x800 something
1 gig of ram
amd 3200
sata raid HD (2x80 gig)

most of the lag caused by fraps is the HD write speed.

I totally agree! :>

Everyone should be forced to do work and not be allowed to play in the day time, because I have to work :/

I need to get myself a job with my own private office and just install DAOC on the computer and pretend I am doing work :>

Luckily at the moment, at least I have an internet connection to relieve the boredom of doing I.T.. On some sites I go to, I don't even have the internet :/

When i record with Gamecam everything runs fine, no lag at all... But when i view the movie, it runs on like 1fps sec with very poor quality... Do i have to register to get more then 1fps or am i doing something wrong?

Daoc is not playable when im using fraps, waaaay to much fps lag :)

Kenniii, try the forum boards at www.planetgamecam.com
There's a helpful bloke called tommiboy(?) that sorts out most people's problems :>
Are you using the new version when you get the 1fps playback?
