TL;DR:
  • Patch 1.0.2 regarding service updates coming this week
  • Game balance changes coming in patch 1.0.3 (unknown when)
  • Lingering Fog, Boon of Protection and Force Armor nerfed because they were too powerful and felt inevitable in a build
  • Inferno damage spikes are too high, tweaked in patch 1.0.3
  • Most players in Inferno atm are under-geared
  • Relative power of set/legendaries to well rolled rare items are as designed
  • iLvl exposed on items in 1.0.3 to show why a magic item is better than a legendary item
  • Legendary item buff in patch 1.1 (PvP patch), will not be retroactive for existing items
  • Cost to train and craft at blacksmith reduced for level 1-59 items. Coming in patch 1.0.3
  • Two gems needed to craft a higher tier gem. Down from three gems. Coming in patch 1.0.3
  • Public Test Realm coming for PvP patch

Why would that explain anything?

Ilvl doesn't explain why an item is more powerful, it just says that it is.
