Game causing CPU overheat?

So I got Sniper: Ghost Warrior and installed it. works fine but after a while my computer will just shut off with no warning. I'm guessing that my CPU is hitting it's limit since I've seen a post elsewhere about that happening due to game compression. Any ideas what I can do to stop the CPU hitting it's temp limit?

AMD Dual Core 4200+ with fan that came with it.

Don't play the game?

Min Spec Processor: 3.2 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 3500+

So yes your poor processor cannot deal with it....perhaps you could overclock it?

Overclock to deal with overheating? wow.

Anyway, don't assume that it's your CPU or that heat is definitely the problem. Do some testing. Run something like CoreTemp, run the game for a bit and tab out to see how hot it's getting.

Yep, what ST^ said, Core Temp or (for more thorough system wide monitoring) HWiNFO32 is pretty damn good. Displays current, min and max temps across the board (lol :\). It's 'orses for courses though, if it's just CPU you're wanting to look at then Core Temp will do it.

0)Your computer isn't in a corner is it? If so, give it more room to breath. Even if not, try taking the side off of your case and see if the same thing happens as fast. If it delays the shutdown or stops it, it's a cooling issue. If it does nothing, it's probably not.

1)Core temp check for CPU/GPU.

2)Failing that, you certain there is heatsink paste on the CPU?

3)If so, is the fan powerful enough?

4)RAM successfully emptying after being used? Then again, I guess a memory dump would occur if it was a RAM issue...

Not really sure after that other then trying different components in the computer if you have any spare, 1 by 1...

My computer is under my desk in a corner but I can't take the side off because of fingers McGee, aka my daughter. All of my other components are working fine and the CPU/heatsink/fan all came as a package and yes it does have thermal paste. Will use Core Temp to check what the CPU is doing during gameplay in a bit.

Well first either get a new heatsink & fan or try reseating your present one, you will probably need some new thermal paste even if you go for just reseating it.

buy a new heatsink

i would recommend the h0000000000oooooooooooge noctua d14

keeps my i7 setup nicely cooled unlike the shitty intel heatsink. was shocked by how fucking huge it is. it fits amd cpus as well

aside from that unplug yer pc take it out side (when its not raining) and blast the fucker with a can of compressed air make sure you get every thing fans, vents, mobo chips, mosfets, capacitor etc but focus more on the cpu, psu and gfx cards

dust does **** shit up check my olden 6800gt card out

Sod the Noctua, pick yourself up the cheap-as-chips Titan Fenrir cooler :D(its 1/2 the price of the Noctua D14)

my old Q6600 got grumpy at stock on the Intel reference heatsink in my old case (P180b) and would kiss 60 at normal load.

replaced with the Fenrir, and it only got close to 60 when I oc'ed it to 3.4ghz after some heavy gaming :)

Or if your daft, one of those corsair H50-1 Hydro water-cooling kits if you have a reasonably big case with a 120 fan grill near the CPU.

a proper watercooling loop with a 120 rad does the same thing as the corsair but would give much lower temps
