I spent six [yes six aka 6 or VI] hours getting home yesterday, of which three were spent waiting in cold windy stations in the middle of fscking nowhere freezing my nuts off. I sat in three different trains that each got canceled and was very very pissed off at the world by the time I got home. On top of that I had a slight cold which is now much worse. Those that have noted my previous posts [or even columns on the subject heh] will know I'm rather partial to getting colds/flu etc.
Left at 17:00, home at 23:00 heh :(

Bloody hell mate that's grim. Have you considered getting a car?

aye, I have. dutch train service has utterly gone down the drain in the past year or so :(
Yesterdays events though, while indeed rather harsh, don't occur very often. The usual is an hour or so extra train time. That means that instead of the regular 1,5 hours it takes me 2,5 hours to get home.

I'm thinking of getting a car just to break from the norm [and to get back a bit of control heh] as there's nothing more frustrating than sitting in a train waiting and not being able to do anything about it :(

Aye, public transport is great when it works, but when it doesn't...

aye, but that's still ok[ish]. if one knows ones train is late anyway, one adjusts to that fact, however if ones train is supposed to be on time and isn't, repeated exposure to this phenomena will spawn a desire to brutally do other people in with blunt instruments

Uk trains are just as bad. :(
My usual journey to work should take me (door to door) about 2hrs 15 mins. Most days it takes me 2hrs 40mins.
There's been times where it's taken well over 3 hrs to get to work. Then I get to do it all again on the way home. Sometimes the journey homes worse and has taken 4hrs or so before. :(

You have my deepest sympathy cos I know EXACTLY how you feel.

thank you :(

btw, as you're in [more or less] the same situation as I am, would you get a car if you could/wanted to?

I dunno if driving to work would actually be any quicker. Rush hour traffic on the M25 and inner london isn't exactly free flowing.
There's petrol and parking to consider.
Which makes it even more depressing cos if you add all that lot up, I'm actually better off getting the train to work each day.
Either that or move closer...but that's a whole other topic. :)

There was a tele proggy on yesterday saying how great the Dutch train network was and what mugs us UK peeps are.

Just thought I'd mention it.

my thoughts exactly. if I would go to amsterdam by car, I'd either have to leave the house at 5am every day or get jammed up 4 separate times :(
as to living there, well [no offence to anyone who thinks living in amsterdam would be totally cool heh] I've lived there. had an apartment right in the city center, waay cool location, but imo it sucks to _really_ live there. work there, go out there, visit there sure thing. just don't live there.

that's the wierd thing: the dutch rail system is one of the better ones around* Either I'm overly critical or all the others really suck arse :(

College is a 10 minute drive. 8 if I go straight through... before I got my car, the jouney would take me in excess of half an hour, normally about 45 minutes. That was if the bus came on time.

now I've got my car though, no hassles. And if traffic is bad, I'm warm and have m00sic so I'm happy. :)
