No flames please.. This is purely for fun! I know some illnesses are really bad for some, but at the same time kinda funny :D

Personally I think narcolepsy is one of them:

The main characteristic of narcolepsy is overwhelming excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), even after adequate night time sleep. A person with narcolepsy is likely to become drowsy or to fall asleep, often at inappropriate times and places. Daytime naps may occur with or without warning and may be irresistible. These naps can occur several times a day. They are typically refreshing, but only for a few hours. Drowsiness may persist for prolonged periods of time. In addition, night-time sleep may be fragmented with frequent awakenings

What do you think is by far the funniest illness?

Lupus =<

Lupus is a widespread and chronic (lifelong) autoimmune disease that, for unknown reasons, causes the immune system to attack the body's own tissue and organs, including the joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, blood, or skin. The immune system normally protects the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. In an autoimmune disease like lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissue.

Reason behind it: Because it has a funny name. o_o Not a nice disease.

Lupus isn't fun in any ways =(

I was thinking of stuff like elephantiasis:

Elephantiasis (Greek ελεφαντίασις, from ελέφαντας, "the elephant") is a disease that is characterized by the thickening of the skin and underlying tissues, especially in the legs and genitals. Elephantiasis generally results from obstructions of the lymphatic vessels. It is most commonly caused by a parasitic disease known as lymphatic filariasis.

Alternatively, elephantiasis may occur in the absence of parasitic infection. This nonparasitic form of elephantiasis, known as nonfilarial elephantiasis or podoconiosis, generally occurs in the mountains of central Africa. Nonfilarial elephantiasis is thought to be caused by persistent contact with volcanic ash. Elephantiasis is associated in the public mind with "the Elephant Man", the carnival stage name of Joseph Merrick. The name refers to the resemblance of the sufferer's limbs to the thick, baggy skin on the limbs and trunks of elephants. However, it is now believed that Merrick's deformity was not actually caused by elephantiasis, but by a completely different medical problem called Proteus Syndrome.

EDIT: Didn't see your reason :/ And isn't Lupus some guy from Harry Potter?

Alexander Disease:

Alexander disease is a rare, genetic, degenerative disorder of the nervous system. It is one of a group of genetic disorders called the leukodystrophies that affect growth of the myelin sheath, the fatty covering--which acts as an insulator--on nerve fibers in the brain.

Alexander disease, which affects mostly males, usually begins at about 6 months of age. Symptoms may include mental and physical retardation, dementia, enlargement of the brain and head, spasticity (stiffness of arms and/or legs), and seizures.

In addition to the infantile form, juvenile and adult onset forms of the disorder have been reported. These forms occur less frequently and have a longer course of progression.

Alexander Disease is characterized by difficulty with talking and swallowing and the inability to cough. There can also be weakness and spasticity of the extremities, particularly the legs. Unlike in the infantile form of the disease, mental ability and head size may be normal. Age of onset is usually between the ages of 4 and 10. Survival can extend several years following onset of symptoms, with occasional longer survival into middle age.

The course of the disease may involve signs of swallowing or speech difficulty, vomiting, ataxia, and/or spasticity. Kyophoscoliosis can occur. Mental function often slowly declines, although in some cases the intellectual skills remain intact.

And then ofc my favorite:

The Black Death!

The Black Death, or Black Plague, was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history. It began in south-western Asia and spread to Europe by the late 1340s, where it received its name Black Death. The total number of deaths worldwide from the pandemic is estimated at 75 million people. The Black Death is estimated to have killed between a third and two-thirds of Europe's population.

Signs and symptoms:

The three forms of plague brought an array of signs and symptoms to those infected. Bubonic plague refers to the painful lymph node swellings called buboes (mostly found around the base of the neck, armpits and groin). The septicaemic plague is a form of blood poisoning, and pneumonic plague is an airborne plague that attacks the lungs before the rest of the body. The classic sign of bubonic plague was the appearance of buboes in the groin, the neck and armpits, which ooze pus and blood. Victims underwent damage to the skin and underlying tissue until they were covered in dark blotches. This symptom is called acral necrosis. Most victims died within four to seven days after infection. When the plague reached Europe, it first struck port cities and then followed the trade routes, both by sea and land.

The bubonic plague was the most commonly seen form during the Black Death, with a mortality rate of thirty to seventy-five percent and symptoms including fever of 38 - 41 °C (101-105 °F), headaches, aching joints, nausea and vomiting, and a general feeling of malaise. The pneumonic plague was the second most commonly seen form during the Black Death, with a mortality rate of ninety to ninety-five percent. Symptoms included slimy sputum tinted with blood. As the disease progressed, sputum became free flowing and bright red. Septicaemic plague was the most rare of the three forms, with mortality close to one hundred percent. Symptoms were high fevers and skin turning deep shades of purple due to DIC (Disseminated intravascular coagulation).

Nothing funny about em... but very interesting i think.

lol i think chris rock would be pretty pissed off if no one laughed at (or is it with?) him bu we all know that isn't what was meant.

i dont really find illness funny (unless its happening to myself or bf) for example last year my bf got something called bells palsy which paralised half his face, we were bother terrified because we thought he'd had a stroke but when we went to the hospital and they explained what it was we were ok and he almost killed me when he came out with a rocky balboa impression but cried "Viviennnne!!" instead of "Adriennnnne!".

One that i thought was really really sweet was a little girl with tourettes, she was at this camp for sufferers and she was the youngest one there (i think she was like 8 or something) and everyone else is shooting out these really foul languages but because shes only 8 she doesnt know any and the worst word she knew was Butt rofl so everyone else is screaming out "arse licking cnut sucker" etc etc and she just pipes up with "butt!" it was really sweet.

Ur supposed to post "funny ilnesses" not fucked up ones.

other people posted diseases that are fatal and disfiguring, difference is i put 2 warnings on mine a spoiler and even a link so you had 4 chances to go against it.

I only linked it because it's such a severe case and so rare. I fail to see how the elephant man is a funny illness, he died in his sleep due to suffocating because he couldnt sleep on his back...hilarious..

he collapsed in Liverpool Central Station due to his illness and his condition was so severe that he could barely breath, his words were almost incoherent...funneh..

How do people born with tourettes know how to swear? o_O Surely they must hear the words first, then adapt to them? oO

most people with tourettes don't swear, well no more than the rest of us... usually it's just tics and random noises.

like whistling and barking. couldnt we just teach them to say words like "cute" and "puppies" instead of swearing? i'm not sure how it works really, i know that sometimes it's like a froidian slip and the words they really want to say but know they shouldnt come out.
