Fucking Routers

I can't believe how fucking shit networking is, I have ANOTHER problem.

I have 2 computers, this one (the host) is connected to a cable modem. The other computer (my one, upstairs) is connected to this computer, and it will only work online if this computer is switched on.

Yesterday I was upstairs happily surfing on my computer, when somebody rebooted this computer. Since then I've been unable to get online upstairs.
My network icon has a yellow ! mark on it, and says I have limited connectivity.

This computer is working fine, but nothing I do seems to make my internet upstairs start working again.

Does anyone have ANY ideas? It is frustrating me immensely, and I've already wasted 10 or so hours trying to fix it, with no luck.

Sounds like either a software firewall might have been turned on or Internet Sharing has been turned off. Limited connection in XP normally means it failed to obtain an IP address.

PS An ethernet router (not xDSL) would be better for what you need, they are dirt cheap these days.
