errmmm what would you do if someone hit you? you would hit back not? But imo because he is a police officer it should not have happend.
You are blaming an entire nation for the actions of one man, just think of what people would say about Wales :p

Is this a similar thing to the Rodney King 1991 beatings (that prompted the LA riots when the cops were found not guilty) - haven't seen this anywhere, I'll look out for the news later on..

man, american news is pay per view, like a heavyweight fight, we are following closely ( we are america, without skip hats and guns ) and that sort of stuff happens all the time but not on camera .

yes I did see it, but did you listen to what was said? According to the report there where 2 people a father and a son. The son resisted and hit the police officer. Don't get me wrong it was not a good thing to do, but if someone hit me I would punch him back.

Speaking of pay per view, has anyone heard about that new fighting type, the one in the octagon, looks to be most violent and entertaining.

and on the topic of america, i give it 30 - 60 years before they flop, especially since the "voted" for bush, who is obviously the catalst for their decline

did you see it? maybe not DOZENS :p but more than half a dozen.

and regardless of what provoked it, the one with lots of cops... they were beating a defenceless man, and the one with two cops, he wasn't resisting or anything they were just beating him with batons.

there's no way they can put any sort of spin on it, it's bollocks. plain as.

There was also a black police officer there, by the way....

You come from Wales where crime involves Bestiality not masses of gang/gun related crime ;) LA happens to be one of the worst places in the world to police, well certain parts of it any way. I'm not excusing what they did but neither do I think its any thing like the Rodney King event of 1991.

This kind of shit really pisses me off.

We know next to nothing about the actual situation, and yet because it's a white police officer beating up a black man we automatically scream "hate crime!"

I'm not attempting to justify police brutality, far from it, but let's wait until all the facts are in until we make a judgement on the reasons and motives behind it.

eg: Rodney King was a known multiple-felon, with four previous incidents of resisting arrest. He was stopped for driving at an insane speed (something like 90mph) through a residential area, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and unsurprisingly enough went mental when they tried to take him in. To the point where he hospitalised two officers.

But hey, it's a white man beating up a black man, so that's all we need to see... it *must* be racially motivated.

UFC isn't new at all, it's just most people didn't know about it before. It's no-holds-barred, you can do anything you want except rake the eyes or attack the genitals. And there's only been one injury (broken wrist iirc) in its entire history.

Must also be a reason for a riot ;)

I don't mean to sound racist but what would the reaction be if a bunch of black cops beat up a white man resisting arrest?

Because their one of the worlds superpowers? Some of the americans have been twats but they've helped us out alot of the time and saved other countries in the same. Personally i dont really like them but i can see why our government wants to be buds with them..

gah

having a conversation bout this earlier

you have to love the way the news tells you the whole picture how the white coppers kicked the shit outta some black guy... well, if you were a copper, and you caught up with this guy because he kicked the shit outta some wommen, or a kid, or an old person, or any innocent really, would you really just say "hey, ya arrested" no, im sorry but that dont happen, some of these "race beatings" you see on the news is where the "innocent arrested" was actually someone who raped and killed some 17 year old girl and deceided to resist arrest... do ya really think you would just arrest em? no, but they would most likely die a horrible death if i was in that situation... the media gets better hits if they dont tell you that the guy was really a really evil person...

just gotta wait for people to defend em now with this so called "law" thing. Well laws relative and not set in stone im afraid. its good to kick shit outta bad criminals

Surely that's no reason to give him the kicking they did though, whether he deserved it or not (which he did, imo, by the sound of it).

Still, I agree about the most recent incident. All that was shown on the news was the coppers pushing him around and then smacking him (i.e. the bits that they can use to do their Hate Crime Story). Pity people just jump to conclusions after seeing half, or less, of the story.

Exactly. No, whatever Rodney King did, he doesn't deserve to have the living shit beaten out of him by a dozen or so Police officers. BUT, when you hear the facts of the case, it makes the situation a little more understandable, and also pretty much torpedoes the "white racist police oppressing innocent black man" angle... which I guess is why they hide it. Police brutality isn't acceptable (although where you draw the line is often an exceptionally difficult judgement to make), but it's a totally different issue to a racist attack.

The events so far are comparable - but these were 2 cases of an individual cop going way over the top arresting a black guy. Rodney King was beaten by a circle of Cop's with big sticks. The Police officers in question (the ones which did the beating, video was considerably lower quality, and barely identifiable on tape)where in court over the offence. The riots started after most of the cops were aquitted, and the 2 which were imprissoned were given the minimum sentence possible for the crime - totalling 5 years inside between them.

this is exactly my point

i'm not making anything out of it as a hate thingy....

the fact that the police did it.

me and stu had a mildly heated discussion about this sort of thing in the burglars thread...

the point is, they are supposed to uphold the law, not do what they fuck they feel like.... hey so he's a rapist or something... AND? that don't give the police the right to kick the shit out of him...

i say this now with a totally straight face :p

if he's done somit wrong he's gonna jail, where we should all know by now what happens to rapists, kiddy fiddlers, people who mug 90 year old ladies et cetera...

Wolfeh. Weren't you all for taking the law into your own hands in the Burglars thread ? Seems it's OK for you but not for a pissed off Copper :)

And UFC has been around ages. Watched UFC 4 on DVD last night. Royce Gracie was unbelievable on the ground. Leg strength from hell for a little guy :)

wij mate

i was on about in ya own property if someone breaks in... ie when there ARE no cops...

if there ARE cops then they should fucking behave themselves... duh.

//edit.

cos if there was a cop sitting in my living room when some little shit broke the window and climbed in, i wouldn't really care about beating the cack out of him...

see my point? a cop's a cop.

I've a friend who's a cop who saw the entire rodney king thing uncut.

If you'd seen all the tape you'd have seen him pick up a cop and use him as a battering ram - Mr. King was high as a kite on PCP and strong as an OX and throwing the police about.

Police training teaches them to repeatedly hit the same area of a person with a baton until it goes "dead" - legs/arms.... So prior to the news clip the police were acting as their training dictated.

I can't say I blame them for going over the top afterwards - Rodney King was scum and we shouldn't be overly concerned with wankers like him...
