Fingoniel - actually, absorb factors into effective AF. I'm not sure if absorb BUFFS boost your AF, but AF100plate has higher effective AF than AF100leather.
Also chain, studded, plate all have higher AF caps than leather.

edit: no big deal in the friar's case, since the base and spec AF buffs probably render you more AF than an armsman

Well, obviously the warden wasn't using bubble cuz he was using damage buff chant which you can see from screenies. Also, this is why firbolgs suck compared to celts, they have low dex, so get evaded a lot. Oh, and the friar hit DAMN hard:-P
