1)what artis is a must for group and/or solo rvr?
2)is it worth going to 50 staff??
3)i just cant decide what ml path i should choose, i would like a path usable for both grouping and soloing
4)not rly a question but, what crush artis can friars wield in right-hand slot?

1. I'll let those who know answer this. Tarts gift is nice, though.
2. As long as you don't go high parry, there aren't really gimp friar specs. 50 staff works. (I'll probably go 34 staff, 25 rejuve, 46 enhance, rest parry)
3. I'd go Battlemaster for 8v8 stuff, Perfector for PvE/Zerg, personally. Depends on your playstyle.
4. I'd recommend either Battler (for the charge), or Champion Crusher (for the 50% power charge), depending on playstyle.

On paper, in PvE, I'd like to wield a nice PvE staff (Staff of Grotesque Gargoyle, or similar) for fighting. If acting as healer/backup healer, to be able to switch to Champion Crusher for the charge, when power low, and if it runs out totally, pull out Tarts Gift, detaunt hit til it power procs, then back off and heal, sounds great.

Only 26 on my friar so far, so not an expert !

It does indeed - 11-18 minutes to clear a task dungeon at level 25, wearing blue kit.

I'm a solely pve friar, so probably cant answer all your questions.

By "Champion Crusher" I assume Darzil means the Friar Dextera Mace? i.e. the champion mace that looks like a lolipop? I currently use that as another tool to get some power back primarily, and use various staves (rather than the champion Dextera staff) - Grotesque Gargoyle for pve (as the pve bonuses are lovely), Tartaros Gift arti for getting back power, the staff that comes off the Dragon is lovely if you want a really quick staff - could be good for getting a lot of quick staff heal styles in possibly. I am lucky to have a range of legendary staves to play with too. I have seen more than one friar carrying Battler at their side.

Other artifacts I have seen friars using (though I dont have many personally) - Harpy Feathered Cloak (understand that is good in rvr and some BG friars like that), Healer's Embrace (I have seen a few particularly pve orientated friars with that personally), Guard of Valour is often seen, Nailah's I think on some. Egg of Youth is a handy toy for remove rez sick or out of line of sight rezzing. I am sure there are others and I hope those who use more artis than I speak up! I think there's a thread at the moment about friar specs on Excal/Pryd Albion board so that might be worth a look for ideas.

Some people swap from their staff to a crush weapon and shield - I do - for healing/buffing. So you can get items that have bonuses for that sort of thing on them and quickly swap to them at press of one button. I used to have a crafted hammer and shield with bonuses to heal/buff. Now I use the Dextera Mace instead of that hammer.

Nowadays its hard to gimp a friar and spec depends on what you want to do.

As a pver, I'm personally 39 staff, 25rejuve, 46 enh - as I pve mostly in groups of about two-four. 39 staff makes you a good strong fighter and gives a very good anytime good healing staff style (50 staff I think gives the follow up to that style, very nice too if you want to go that way). The 25 rejuve makes the staff heals do quite decent healing, and doesnt mean I run out of power after a few heals! 46 enhance is okay - last fire buff, which is what I most often use in pve (e.g. dragon raids). I guess a lot of people would want more enh, perhaps for rvr so you get things like the top matter resist, and I wish I could get the purple 30-sec area effect heal in the enhance line - but hey you cant have everything.

I used to have 7 rejuve and I suppose it would be okay if I soloed or was standing in a heal font or power font. But then 7 rejuve I dont think will help make the staff-heal styles particularly strong at healing. I've also tried 18 rejuve and it was mostly good enough, but with the new changes decided to go for more.

I've seen:
34 staff, 49 enh, 25 rej (very similar to mine), without the nice anytime style at 39.
39 staff, 49 enh, lower rej and more parry
Virtually no/no staff at all, high enh, 30something rejuve and bodyguard ml ability.
I dont know much about the 50 staff spec but I am sure it would work fine, it depends entirely on your play style - maybe the enh wouldnt be as high as some.

galadry ure a bit wrong with the staff styles, the anytime one is 34 and the 39 style is the one that comes after counter evade

and im thinking of going this spec:
50 staff 37 enhance 18 rejuv 12 parry - i know i got much parry but there isnt anything better i can put the points in imo
gives me - excommunicate i think its rly nice as solo friar or even in groups
still nice heals with capped piety and 25 heal bonus
and everything that u get from 49 enhance but just a little badder

50 staff is good for solo, and is kick arse.

It does mean that you lose the decent group resists, though.

In a group in RvR the Friar is wanted for one of two things (or both) - Bodyguard (if Battlemaster) and Elemental resists. If you're into Dragon raids, red fire resists is a must have.

Depends what you want, which is the nice thing about Friars these days.

These answers are from a group players pov.

1. Im gonna include gear here also.

Artifacts/items/bonuses you NEED

  • Egg of youth - ae rez, can turn the tide of fights ( and give lots of rez rps in keepfights)
  • Ceremonial bracer - Grapple with stun immunity up = no stun on friar
  • Enough buff bonus for capped base buffs (think its around 13%)
  • Malice/battler in 2hslot for the defensive charge
Artifacts/items/bonuses that are nice to have
  • Dexcap
  • Castspeed
  • concap/con
  • Hpcap/hp
  • Healbonus
2. No, staff in grprvr is totally wasted points unless you run in a tankgrp and the friar has a damagedealing role (not opted, there are better classes)
49enchantments is a must for the best resistbuffs, 44rejuv is very nice for your heals, this is the spec i highly recommend.

3. Battlemaster without a doubt, a friars role in most grps will be to BG/grapple. Without battlemaster at lvl8 you will never get a decent grp.

4. Try making a template with Malice in mainhand and battler in 2h slot

might be wrong about some things and forgot about some, I do not play a friar myself but I am damn aware of how important a good friar is for an alb grp in rvr.

Ive played a Friar since Retail release and my Opinions are

1/ TBH you wont get "good" rvr grps as a friar , friars tend to be back ot the que when it comes to bg. and with Pallys and Armsman getting love. that last group spot is all but had the door shut in our face for rvr grps.. so... i recoomend a SOLO friar spec (i always have n always will solo ... i find it more challenging)

Artifacts. "Again my opinion this may differ from different peoples playstyles.

Chest: GOV "ML6 Friar Robe is nice also from Ashen Isle"

Gloves: Maddening Scallers

Staff: Tartaros/CHamp staff or Brazen Stout Defender"sidi staff" are VERY nice frontload dmge slow staffs but i also recoomend a faster staff also for when u fight shield classes and pbt/caster classes. staffs that come to mind are.. Destinys Buble breaker "sidi". Dragon staff and Staff of the Last Briton hero "Krondon"

CB "DEX version"

Those are the main items i can remember yusing "i aint played toa friar for a long time"

2/.i havent tried any other specs yet . but i am 50staff atm and tbh ,. i LOVE IT.. the excomunicate proc heal and dmge proc is awesome and will keep u alive longer.. i'd imagine the abs and dex u would lose wont matter much in toa cos u can always use sc etc and artifacts and a BOT to make up for it.

3. IMO Battlemaster.. seeing as you will be solo a lot. u wont have time to drop foh or fop as you got inc.. and some of the Bm styles "end drain , power sap etc are v usefull" but the skill i personally found most usefull was THROW WEAPON... this is great for those pesky cowards/casters who try kite u or run away.

4. Dont bother with crush artifacts.. just get some Shield/Mace on it with +Healing & +Buff bonus on them.. and buff up with Mace/Shield out. also try get yourself a STARDROP for buff enhancement .

tips.
when u SC try get "again this is MY OPINION , will differ from different friars"

MAX DEX CAP
MAX QUICK CAP
As Many +Hits or +Con that u can after u maxed above 2
10% Melee dmge
10% melee speed dmge
i think max is 5-7% STYLE dmge
and all resists MAX "if possible" it is EXTREMELY hard to get all stuff maxed above . but it is VERY possible if u have LOTS & LOTS of plats

try this website for much more Friar Input
http://www.drunkenfriar.com/index.php?page=2&sid=385983fd5ceb483215087bd87c45e4d2

hope my input has given u an open insight to friars . and dont forget to ask around for other friars opinions that may differ from mine hence giving you a choice of which you prefer to suit your own playstyle.

Hehe so I did get it wrong! Thanks. No wonder 34 staff is popular. When I am soloing or in duos where I get aggro, the evade follow up often gets used so I do find it handy. Not so cool when in groups. I'll have to see what I do more of!

Support Artifacts like EoY, Zo, Nailah Robe and Healers Embrace(For heal%)

Naliah, Scalers and Tarts for melee damage and speed.

CB for the Stun/mez turn.

Swap out Tarts with the CL mace when casting single target heals and you have 24% healing 4% cast speed 8% range.

Wish I was able to find away cap out the con and lower the pie overcapping but with just 2 SC slots to work with it was kinda hard plain

this template got almost what duact said should be needed, lacks much con and hit caps thou, but 101 dex, 10% cast spd, capped heal, 10% melee spd, althou only 11% buff =( althou it has 2 "heal-all-over-time" charges...

and ofc this aint for a melee friar, but for a 44 Rejuvenation, 49 Enchancement battlemaster friar..

A good Friar provides so much more for a good RvR group compared to Armsman and Paladin, however you do need to get to a fairly high realm rank to get all the useful toys (ST3, VR2, Whirling Staff, etc.). Base buffs, the highest resist buffs, end reduction, good damage with good group defence.

My current template is listed here. The lowest resists on it are 23%, it has decent hitpoints, CTR and champion staff for extra resists. It doesn't have much piety or any powerpool, however it's a damn excellent template for survivability and abilities.
