Hi my pretties,

Quick question, has anyone tried setting FreeNAS up on an old laptop? I've got an old Samsung R560 and a spare 500Gb drive, and am wanting to set this up to share music and photos throughout the house. Was just wondering, am I making things difficult for myself using a laptop? Will all the power saving gubbins get in the way (although the battery s dead so if power fails the laptop switches off). What about stuff like closing the lid? Will I have issues with WiFi?

If it runs freebsd it'll run freenas. You are picking up difficult hardware but if you can figure those things out it won't be a problem.

I think in essence one is simpler and the other is more complex but in that one way I guess it means one can offer more advanced features than the other as well.
