...and I've just read it. Fuck me that IS quite radical.

All this talk about 'progressive' by Labour stooges was a joke. Labour wanted no progress on anything around civil liberties and de-centralisation. It only ever talked about Lords reform and did fuck all.

Wow. I'm not sure what to do with that. I don't think I've seen a speech from a UK politician that didn't make my feel dirty after reading it before now. Proper unambiguous statements, no ifs, buts, maybes, this will take a lot of getting used to. Great speech.

Looks all good on paper.

Best thing to come from this election is the lib dems playing the two bigger parties off in order to get alot of good stuff through.

I see alot of talk about giving power to the people, I wish they would give the power back to the Police and the Teachers.

Ya but STILL not accepted everywhere, most places i admit, but not everywhere. And if you want to use it for banking related things you need a new one if you have changed address as i found out much to my chargin. And people like me often move around a lot.

*attempting to open a student account*

TSB: "sorry your address has changed, we cant take your drivers license, do you have a passport?"

Me: "not anymore, no"

TSB: "utility bill?"

Me: "no,all my bills are included in my rent"

TSB: "er"

I had to dig out a tax rebate or something as i recall

And on another occasion i was fucked as i had no "valid" photo ID with a changed address from what was on the license and no passport and they would not take a student card.

A lot of bull - lets see how much comes to pass.

I see theres more money and independance for the regions but no regional assembly for England and nothing about the thorny position of non-english MPs voting on issues that affect only England.

I also note the coalition yesterday exempted Scotland from the initial 6 Billion of cuts.

Yep, that was something I thought the Tory's would force through. Hoping it's still on the cards.

And Scotland needs to be cut off and left to bankrupt itself.

.

He does mention resolution of the West Lothian question although no specifics.

"And, of course, asking what we can do about the difficult issues surrounding the West Lothian Question. "

That's a pretty good speech not full of platitudes and obfuscation which makes a nice change. If they can achieve even half of what they plan then it would be a huge improvement.

One of the things I have most hated about having labour in power is the constant encroachment and slip towards a totalitarian state. Any reversal of that trend is to be welcomed.

Judge them by their actions not their words.

Edit - look at Obama...

Oh Snap son.
What are you trying to say here?

That he promised everything but has so far delivered very little - a neutered healthcare bill that does a great deal for the pharmaceutical industry...

That's not all his fault though, it's very hard for his government to actually push through any reforms.

As far as I recall he was all set to do things properly before some congressman/senator/whatever died and screwed everything up.
