free wysiwyg html editor?

a mate is looking to set up a small, static collection of web pages to display his show cats to the world. he's intrested in doing it himself as a learning experience, though as he knows bugger all about html he'd prefer a see-what-yer-up-to type editor.

anyone know of a decent free / shareware-esque one? do tell please!
