Nice one Dutch people.

Seems like people will be able to hack Oyster cards in the future! Good to see it's another solid British system. Incoming underground price hikes to enable them to install a different silly £billion system :)

(I reserve the right to point out that I only visit London once a year)

ho hum the things were hackable from day one. remember two things kids: un: the chips are hackable because of what? brainy hackers? err, no. I'll leave you to figure it out. aaand two: the only reason this is being trumpeted so gleefully is because government and large companies brainiacs have sunk squillions into this and are now getting poked by the everloving media.

It's not exactly free though. You have to buy a card to put the fake credits on. You can then travel for free until they update their system and block the card (less than 24 hours).Seems like more hassle than it's really worth unless you use the tube a helluva lot in a day.

aye, it seems that in the most extreme case, a person may be getting a *gasp* 20% discount since the cards cost £3 anyway.

That's from TfL though. Surely there will be some generic card that gets the job done.

Besides which, if my maths is right:

365 x £3 (Oyster Card Cost) = £1,095

1 x Annual (i.e. with discounts) Zone 1-3 Travel Card = £1,136

So, and I'm guessing, some people could start doing this shit if it turns out to be cheaper?

Assuming they can get hold of the equipment and software do it OR someone willing to sell them 50 dodgy cards at a time. The kit isnt going to be cheap so I'd imagine the crims would need either massive volume or massive markup to make their money back. Doesnt sound like a good business model to me. Obviously people will do it, but will it happen enough to actually cause any problems? I think not.

I would suspect it would be more to scam an unsuspecting person by selling them an Oyster Card for £20 (for example) with £50 worth of credit on it, which they would be able to verify, but the card then "expires" leaving them with a huge loss...

I don't disagree. I would imagine though that they will use this shit to justify even larger fare hikes using the chestnut of "we need to upgrade oyster security" :(
