Hai guys,

Zonealarm free version for vista 64 bit is not reliable enough for me. I couldn't connect to the internet half the time, and it would cause my firefox to lock up, forcing me to restart to continue browsing.

So I need a free alternative. I have looked at Online Armor and Outpost, both don't work on 64 bit. Ghostwall I can't get working either. So I need a lightweight (read: resource efficient) firewall. It doesn't have to do much - just block incoming and outgoing connections, something that most firewall vendors appear to have forgotten.

yep spot on :p

With the routers firewall, common sense + windows firewall you should be fine.

These things.

As long as you're behind a router and not some crappy USB modem or directly hooked up to a cable modem then you'll be fine with Windows' own firewall.

Actually, the Vista firewall is very decent. Once you go to the advanced page, that is. You have inbound/outbound rules, per port, etc...

I really don't think I will use a 3rd party app, when the default is good enough. Unless I would not know one thing about the damned things. But I do, so hurrah!

Stick with the built in firewall.
Best Free Firewall

If you want software this might be worth a read
If you do pick Comodo off of this list be aware that 99% of your "this isn't working" problems will suddenly be because Comodo is blocking access, i.e. it does it's job VERY well.

I found Comodo slowed my PC to almost a stand still...I'll avoid that if I was you..

I found it was no worse than Zonealarm tbh Dys. However they're all pretty pointless these days.

i've never had a good relationship with Zonealarm.

all those fucking popups were driving me insane.

and even when i did allow and "don't ask me again" it still did it on the same program without any changes in it between launches.

i had one a long time ago that was old as hell and discontinued that worked flawlessly, it asked the first time i opened a program and then only after every time it changed.

it was absolutly ace. to bad i can't remember its name :(

think it was zonealarm that bought it and shut it down :(

I am like the majority here and just use the Windows Firewall after you have saved a MMC to control it there is not really a down side.

What I hated about Zone Alarm was the popups for new games to have access did not always appear. It would become a pain to manually add things
