In my MMORPG experience i've only really ever been a PvP'er, or leet kid or whatever. You know what i mean, i log in, kill shit (or more often get killed), call someone a c**t on teamspeak and then log off.

My experience with roleplaying has been highly ammusing if nothing else. I always imagined life as a roleplayer would be difficult with all the kids runnning around in games like WoW, and deep down felt sorry for RP'ers.

That is until of course i met one. I was on my brothers account, seeing as i had refused to buy WoW intially because it had far too many short people in it, he had roled on an RP server and so to take advantage of him playing the game more than me and inadvertdly obtaining free shit off him, i rolled on his server.

I remember standing next to some players, whom at the time i thought were NPC's sheerly because of how well versed they are. Bowing, squatting, feeling each other up n shit. It was quite a show!

One of the (as i was soon to discover) roleplayers came over to me and said something along the lines of 'Hail' or something like that. My reply was 'Hey mate, RAG'Warrrnnn!?'

I was then peppered with '[OOC]OH FUCK OFF SCRIPT KIDDY[/OOC]', '[OOC]DO SOMETHING USEFUL WITH YOUR KEYBOARD, UNPLUG IT AND HANG YOURSELF WITH IT, SPERM BREATHE![/OOC]'. Which at the time was quite distresful due to my poor brain trying to retort to insults while figuring out what the fuck the three letter acroynum was that encased them. It was all very bad for my blood pressure and immediatley i was forced to quit the game, crawl into the corner of my room and sob salty tears of injustice while holding my favourite teddybear.

Suffice to say i've yet to return to RP servers, but seeing as i love you guys so much i'm cool which ever way we go, so long as you don't insult me with [OOC] tags as it causes me to go mentally unstable for a short period of time.

Aya, that's a bad experience, roleplaying doesn't have to include silly talk, normal talk suffices. And I agree that roleplayers- not used in a negative term can sometimes be abit abusive towards newcomers that don't quite know where to start.

I think what Levin meant as "leet kids" was that in DAoC you had 3 realms fighting eachother. Alot of guys were more competitive and was more focused on "fair fights", ie one vs. one or group vs. group. Which isn't really the way warfare is done, but fair enough. I was a part of that type of crowd though.

So it was quite a shock when I migrated to EVE almost 3 years back that there were no thing as fair fights or equal numbers. Just the fight and winning or losing side. Of course you got a whole lot of smack by blobbing pirates or whatever, but hey, everyone can't be satisfied ;)

Anyways, we number atleast 30 people if we go by the majority, which is quite a good number and we'll also have Aesirs Blade on the same server, so there will be enough of Freddies to play with. :)
Active numbers will probably drop abit since people need to see if they like the game, but there will be plenty of people to go swashbuckling with

PvP.

No point going on a roleplay pvp server since if you want to u can RP on a normal PvP server aswell.

Griefers will go to the Servers were they can grief the most, and "no skill roleplayers" are probably more griefable in the eyes of leet CS kidz then a "HC PvP folks that races to 80".

Think about that. :D

First, it's not about "being able to RP", it's about being able to RP and not get grief about it.

Just try it on a normal server and see.

Second, griefers are dealt with as they generally can't stay in character.

Not really. You don't have to say anything at all while chainganking lvl 30s with your lvl 80 assassin. And while funcom have stated that on all servers exessive greifing could in theory be chainkilling someone it will be beyond possible to enforce such a ruleset on any server since the grayarea is indefenite. Calling someone a racist remark on any server would obviously be granted with a permanent warning, but chainkilling or ganking people will not, since where do you draw the line?

I'm sad to see that you guys are heading to PvE, personally I won't set my foot on a server that limits my gameplay; and after all conan was made to be PvP, and having to queue to pvp or play minigames all day long won't suffice for me

I would have though about a RP server, but I think in the end it would be annoying to speak with "random" people for 10 mins in rp tongue when you really only wanted to know the name of a pot or an item. :fluffle:

Well two points really. Kill a ganker and you're sure to get some nice "leet talk" back. Even i private, then just report and off they go. Also a grieflimit is very easy to enforce, just ive the mods the power to ban/warn people from servers and let them decide. anyone with half a braincell would know the difference between ganking and a massmurderer.

Also, about asking about items (ooc) works wonders.

One reason why I won't go PvP is because the zones are quite linear with many chokepoints and places where you get a loading screens. With the FFA ruleset it's going to be paradise for gankers with 80 hours a week to spend on twinking their chars. Also, the PvP exp system is going to be borked in the beginning. Currently they have it so you have to kill THREE people in order to make up for lost pvp-exp gained for dying ONCE to another player. A 1/3 ratio in other words.

So.. i'm going to let all the "l33t kiddies" (as opposed to us "randoms" :) ) break the PvP ground until it's nice and even, and then maybe enjoy it once I've found a class I like and feel nice and settled. :) In the meantime there is still PvP to be done, on the PvE server as well, if the need arises.

Hopefully we'll get a server list a couple of days before. Else we'll just pick second English PVE server from the top or something?

Interesting...concept?

So thats the way to artificially narrow the space on top of the pvp-ladder? I wonder if high ranked players give more XP then low ranked ones. That would make it even harder to get on top.

Last time I encountered a system like that was preTBC WoW, when we laddered Arathi Basin for High Warlord rank. The system asked for getting exploited tho...

I'd suggest picking the very least populated one.

SImple reasons:

- Things get full quick.
- Things get fuller when the "general people" get there.
- People will, in say, years time be moving to the emptier servers.

I agree with old.Tohtori. However it will be difficult to pick the least populated one on the day the servers come up.

So far I always was successful by picking the server with the oddest name. People will go for "kool" names, as in Death, Murder, Kill and Rampage, while odd names (cabbage, rainbow, hello kitty) will likely be rather empty.

Its a crazy idea that can never work - it looks ok on paper but when you think that it means the majority will gain nothing from pvp then you have to wonder why that majority would bother pvping - if they left it like that the pvp servers will die a quick death and end up deserted.

Even a 1 kill = 1 death situation is harsh and probably not sustainable as it still relies on 50% being willing to gain nothing yet continue to pvp.

Another thing to be wary of is if there are countries that dont have their own language server best keep track of where they are going - there was a WoW server starting with Sp that completely filled with spanish people talking in spanish on all chat channels - unless you spoke spanish people who had started there were upset :p

Yeah I agree. But that's abit hard without monitoring server populace a few days after launch and people want to play right away.

If we get the server list beforehand we can pick some of the less known names. I know EU PVE servers will have god names and my bet is that servers like "Crom", "Mitra", etc. will fill up pretty fast. Basically the same point as dee777.

Remember that Spanish, French and Germans will have their own localized servers aswell.

About the server names, I heard a rumor that Euro PvE servers will be named after gods, so like Crom, Mitra, Set, etc... but I could be wrong here. This is very unconfirmed.. it might have just been an example some guy used.

But if it IS true, I think we should go Crom. :D

Aye it's a bit hard.

I'd say, just an idea, play and learn for day or two and set up the final guild then.

Just avoid Crom and Mithra since yeah, peeps be going there :D

There was a poll at the closed beta boards, however I dont know how many servers they will setup, so I cant tell you about standings.

However they had Ishtar and Ibis in the list. As an old EvE online refugee, I very much appreciate these names. ;P

//edit: Lets just stay the heck away from Crom. Please. *whimper*

Better play on a high population server than low population in the long run. Think Prydwen / Excal when not clustered.

Agree, don't want to sink xx months into the game for the server to die on its arse :p we should grab the most populated server we can get our hands on.

Depends on how you look at it. The kool kids servers in WoW suffered from login queues before char transfer was made available. Yeah, thats right, on some servers you had to wait up to 45 minutes to just log into the game. I think "Burning Legion" suffered for instance.

Of course I agree, its an ambivalent matter...

Aye I remember waiting for 15-20 minutes before I managed to login to Earthen Ring on WoW :) I wouldn't mind so much on this tbh.. end of the day its a brand new game and the pvp dominates anything WoW has to offer pvp wise so that alone makes up for it.

It will calm down after a few weeks :)

No no and no. Even if a server did die, we could transfer easypeasy.

But if a server get filled to the rim with crom shouters and mithrahumpers, we'd be stuck with the queues.

I'm not gonna take another ticket with the words "you're in queue, #2491" like in EVE

Screw queues, it should be first come first serve, the more you spam the bigger chance of getting in :p
