FreddysHouse Guild - Server Choice

With a little over a week until people can start playing in Hyboria, we need to choose what server type we are going to play. Hopefully most will play on the same server.

We'll do it easy, vote for the option you want, votes will be checked against the Freddyshouse Roster. Current members will be at the bottom of this thread: https://forums.freddyshouse.com/age-conan333/227483-freddyshouse-guild.html

When pre-launch day comes, unless we get to know server list beforehand, I'll just pick a server in the ruleset that we have chosen, preferrably one that will have a decent size community, but not so many that it will have queues.

Other DAoC guilds that want to join on the same and coordinate this, feel free to PM me.

Summary of the rulesets:

PVE
- PvP only in PvP minigames and in the Border Kingdoms (zone)

PVP
- full world PvP except in trade hubs (citites, ... )

RP-PVP
same as PVP but with added:
Roleplay server rules

Discuss / persuade / vote!

Personal opinions:

PVE
+ better suited for casual players, don't have to look over your shoulder all the time
+ hopefully less "leet" community
- little conan feel
- might be dull for more "hardcore" players

PVP
+ conan-esque feel like depicted in books and cartoons
+ thrill of never knowing when you get attacked
- level 80 gankers
- griefing
- smack talkers

RP-PVP
+ hopefully more mature community

I vote PVE.

im afraid im gonna have to go with pve i got 3 weeks of 12 hours shifts comin up which means im gonna be behind the lvling curve and thats not where i want to be on a pvp server so pve is the sensible option for me might jump to pvp when winter comes round

RP-PVP, simply because it's real'er, in every sense, and i trust the RP server rules keep the leet kids away. If not for the PG18 already but..still.

And big +, no leet speak.

I voted PVE in the end - I love pvp but I think it will be easier for us to play together in a pve environment and I can get my fix in the border regions.

I was going to go with PvP server but after the open beta I think PvE would be the better choice.

By the by, i'm mroe then willing to join the PVE server with a "fun" character, but i think we can create a RPPVP guild too. So it's not like we can't play if we don't like the serverchoice

PvE server till class balancing is somewhere decent. An alt guild on a RP-PvP server seems like a fun idea tho.

Yes - plus they need to re-work the pvp xp gain/loss mechanic - at the moment you need 6 kills to offset 1 death which means most people are going to be on 0 with little chance of levelling in which case they are unlikely to continue pvping so it will just empty out...

I voted PVE because i hated trying to level on camlann on DaoC, i spent most of my time one PVE servers and loved it. The choice of being able to level when you want or PVE when you want suits better i think.

pve = practically daoc except you can kill other groups! = win.
And safe levelling is always best.

i seem to remember hearing something about that you cant engage someone thats >5 levels below you.

yeah i think this will be overall the best for the guild tbh. as the pvp servers are FFA as far as i know. and even if we roll on a RP-PVP there will be idiots. probably as many as on the normal servers. ROLEPLAYING idiots sure, but still idiots in the end

I know EAMythic said you wont be able to do that in WAR. You get transformed into a chicken when you enter lowlevel areas as a highlevel. Awesome idea actually. There are even special titles available for doing stuff in chickenform.

Well from personal experience on different MMOs, i can say this isn't true.

PVP server is a gankfest, fun, but gankfest still.

RPPVP is dangerous, but much much less gankfestive.

really would have prefered to go on a pvp server but everybodies got holidays comin up so its 12 hour cover for pretty much 3 months on and off pvp servers is all about lvling up very fast or you become nothin more than a stepping stone and entertainment for gankers

Guess it'll go as so:

PVE main server for Freddys.
RPPVP guild for the PVE refugees

I'll go mainly RPPVP(only one character) and then come have fun on the PVE server with more "leet" mindset.

But have to say, my focus and time, especially with this kind of world/game, has to stay on the RP side.

Yup, we have almost majority for PVE server already. Although 3 votes are not on the Roster, but I'll guess they'll want to play with the rest of us regardless.

I guess we know a bit more about the game now - with the harsh death penalties in pvp those servers will be flooded with stealthers at release so unless we were all going to be stealthers some classes are going to have a hard time levelling which is pretty restrictive.

The other problem is pvp balance (or lack of it) in the game at the moment - I think jumping straight into it at this point could be a little unwise

I enjoy roleplaying and presumably there will be an unofficial pve rp server for lack of an official one?

That would be my choice too, just that, if the only pure RP is in PVP, then i gotta go there.

Ofcourse doesn't stop me from joining fellow freddis for some carnage

You know, the name or ruleset of the server doesn´t nessecarily mean anything. The roleplay doesn´t live within a name... it live within your hearts *awaits major bashing*

That's true, but on an RP server, it's enforced so you don't get immersion braking "omg dudezz lol!" messages all the time.

Though being on a regular server doesn't stop me from roleplaying.

I think most roleplayers are kinda used to that. Prydwen was the unofficial rp server in DaoC but a lot of people didn't roleplay, and there was no need to force them. We who did roleplay were quite happy among eachother. The only bad thing to come out of it in the end, I think, was the roleplayers vs. "l33t" people. For example roleplayers would more often be of the "red is dead" opinion, while the l33t kids wanted to have crossrealm duels and got pissed off when their opponents got killed by others.
