FPS Problem on TFC

Sometimes my fps drops from 100 to 50-60 without any apparent reason.
It seems that some spots of the map (for example, on 2fort, under the grate of topspiral, near the entrance) lowers my fps.
Strage thing considering that my sistem isn't a low end one (PIII800, GF2 Asus 7700 Deluxe 32mb DDR).
My FPS drops even if i see too many models (and i have playermip on 2!!!).
Im nearly sure that this drop is caused by some kind of bug since lowering resolution doesn't make any difference (actually i havce 99fps everywere, excep when i see 2 or more players)

When i had Matrox G400 I managed to fix this kind of bug installing TurboGL, but actually on Win2k they doesn't seems to work :(

Funny thing, in CS i have no such problem...

Try swapping screan modes, if your using open GL try direct 3d and visa versa .

I have to use open gl in TFC which I can get 100fps but in direct3d I get around 30-40 .

Don't use Direct3d for HL, it doesn't work properly.

HL Is based on Quake, which had only software and GL modes, Direct3d was added to the engine by Valve, but it doesn't work as smoothly as OpenGL, and isn't supported properly.

You have playermip on 2? If you're going to turn your settings that low, then you'd be better off setting everything slightly low, then accepting a lower frame rate.

no no i'm using OpenGL, D3D gets me no more than 30fps...

Anyway i can set everithing as low as i want, but the drops doesn't change by a bit... :(

tell us a bit more about your system....

things like drivers can cause this, I installed the agp fix for amd athlon cpu but I installed the wrong one and fps dropped to around 40 odd, just by chance I reinstalled the correct fix without knowning and fps were back up in again .

Try running 3d mark 2001 and see what your comps weak points are .

well, you could set maxfps to 60 and then it would just sit at 60 continuously and never drop ( hence it would be ultra smooth and without the stutter u probably get when it changes from 100 to 60) imho 60fps is more than enuff. But then I have a TNT2...

I limit my max fps to 60 as it imo helps things to run that extra bit more stable .

I'm on a gf2 ultra but still feel this is a benafit
