PERL isn't that bad, just that PHP has overtaken it in the popularity stakes, and is a lot easier to learn to boot.

perl is a stand-alone language. the fact that you can use it for some web purposes shows just how robust it is. php is [their own words] a hypertext preprocessor [used to be called personal home page] that extends some of the functionality of html. they are both cool, but there is no denying that perl is more all round. a smart developer knows when to use what iyfm.
