Firstly, Deebs has beefed the anti-spam hacks up. New rule:

Users have to be registered for 7 days and have 5 posts before they can:

a) create new threads
b) use the bbcode URL

Hopefully that'll slow down the tards who bore us with their shit (the people signing up to post a single thread selling or preaching something, rather than just the normal spam of course ;) ).
We're considering some changes to the CoC to shorten it and we're also considering a "If you do something that we consider spam we reserve the right to publish your email and IP addresses", but theres probably laws against that.

Secondly, we're going to be deleting the Arcade and replacing it with ibProArcade over the coming days.
If theres any particular games you'd like to try (check the home site out, theres 1200+ games for it) then say so here and we'll check them out.

You aren't allowed to tell people to die for any reason, otherwise people wouldn't be banned for "Fuck off and die". Ban Cyfr. LAWLZZ.

I know I voiced my opinion in #freddyshouse the other night about the current amount of s**t on these boards. To be honest I feel that the moderators/+v in #freddyshouse brigade could perhaps do a little more to support the Tony/Ted and the boards etc…
I don’t have anything specific in mind but seems to me a lot of ppl take this service for granted.
Nice idea Ted/Tony….. let’s hope this will have some positive effects.

Perhaps delete threads which have been idle for X amount of time to clear away some of the s**t.
I'm not suggesting enforcing a police state here btw.

But they just sink down to the bottom. *scratches head*

I think I'm misunderstanding you here.

Wotcha kerrikins....
Actually, 90% of the work is done by volunteers, ie the moderators, and usually for no readily apparent reason unless you count being roasted by anyone they have to moderate as a plus.

If we disregard the style of conversation and the bickering that goes on between regulars sometimes, these boards have only just recently suffered a spate of spam in the form of viral marketing, and hopefully we can curtail the majority of that with these changes.

With regards to the way people conduct themselves here I dont think its necessarily a big problem; we are what we are.

Yep Ted that’s fair enough and Im aware that 90% of moderation is done voluntarily but it seems to me that 90% of those volunteers aren’t doing what they should be.
Im just a little hacked off with ppl taking this all for granted.

I don't want to delete threads from the forums period.

I love reading old posts sometime, it's part of the history and shouldn't be removed as we move forward.

Disk space is not an issue and the forums have advanced searching functions which limit how far back you want to search etc.

Ted, for you as always: :kissit: :wanker:

A number of multiplayer games would rock in the arcade, maybe some team games where forum users can form teams to combat others?

/me takes off gauntlet and taps Wij on the cheek with it

Will have a hunt around and see if I can find any...

Shame, despite the old Arcade having what was possibly the worst version of Tetris Ive ever seen it was alot of fun :)

As long as the replacement has a version of Tetris Ill be happy.

Hi Athena

Sorry but I think you are wrong. Ted has given us guidelines on what and what not is acceptable and we moderate according to those if we were not doing what was asked then I am sure he would let us know.

All the moderators do a great job and usually find that fine line between "Regulars Playtime" (sometimes people just need to be silly for a while it is part of their characters and brings character to the boards) and nubian spammers who only register here to tell us to turn to god or see their new lame website (which are usually written so badly they make ones eyes bleed).

If you have an issue with a post i suggest you use the "reported post" function this highlights the issues to the mods and they can deal with it effectively.

I think it is incredibly unfair and short-sited of you to have ago at those people who give up their time volentarily to help out here and deal with reported posts quickly.

If there is a problem with a post I am ALWAYS in irc from 6ish onwards to sort it out if no one else has. We like to let the board moderators mod their own communities, we have found that it is better this way. i.e. if I go and mod the daoc forums it usually causes more trouble than it is worth because although I am a part of the fh community I am not a part of the DAOC community, unlike Sharma, Ziva, Flimgoblin or Tilda (apologies if I have left someone out).

IRC is a different matter altogether and because of the nature of the medium different rules apply again I am always there as are most of the others at varying periods during the day.
