Er, Bodhi?

Hate to be the one to break it to ya, but I'd seriously see about replacing that 75GXP. They have fatal design errors which see a large proportion of them actually break irretrievably losing all data stored on it.

My first one failed within a week, have had the 2nd one 3 weeks now but am trying to get it replaced by Scan atm...

As for XP:

Cleartype: As stated previously it looks blurry as hell at first, but once your eyes become accustomed to it it's sweet. Far easier on the eyes.

Mouse lag: Shite processor?

Hasn't crashed once so far, and I love the new UI (yer, the Luna one, Silver pls). Far more colourful and pleasant to spend 12 hours a day looking at than the bog standard Windows 9.X UI which we've had now for 6+ years...

I'll reserve judgement on the 75GXP til it finally fails, but the low level format seems to have fixed it. I've since bought a 100Gb Western Digital Caviar drive, so the IBM is just used as a secondary drive for storing shite anyway


As for XP, to me it seems to be the most stable MS operating system since NT 4, and certainly seems a LOT happier on my machine than 2k was. I actually really like the new UI, and some of the little touches are really nice. Cleartype is one of the best things ever aswell.

Well, Running XP using Hibernate all the time now, cause of the faster shut down/start up time you get - and it still wont die dammit!

New UI is nice. Little things - the sliding away of the system tray, the grouping of taskbar items - and the recently used programs list works really well. Gotta love the "fade" on menus too (Use it on 2000 at college too).

Haven't had a need to test out the "Compatability" mode yet for old games. So far they've all run fine

Although, i stuck me other pc (the adsl box) on xp and its been nothing but trouble

fucking useless wouldnt't come close to describing it

sticking 2k back on that real soon now

xp can stay on up here though

I've been getting used to XP prof for a few weeks now, dual booting with 98SE. I'm certainly happy enough to migrate to it full time and junking SE. Performance is pretty much on a par after a bit of tweaking and it is refreshing not to have the whole system going down if a programme crashes, or one of the other users mucking up my particular settings. I haven't any experience of 2K.

The one issue I had with it - or rather Nvidia - was graphics drivers for the GeForce. XP has no OpenGL in the standard drivers and pretty much everyone recommends updating with the Nvidia reference drivers. However this soon became crash city with games, even blue screening sometimes though always restoring perfectly. Thank God for driver roll back, which is a godsend. Going to the leaked 20.81 drivers did the trick and it is stable, taking everything I can throw at it.

well, I might get Win2k, but until I can get hold of a "non activation" copy of Win XP Pro I'll stick to what works for me. Partly because I run 3 computers here and I'm fucked if I'm paying for extra licensces to run XP on the other 2.

Besides, I going to learn to use Linux.

erm, I have XP Pro and theres no mention of registration other than entering da serial in initial install. Dunno if its Warez version mind... no .nfo's with the install files just a serial txt - got it offa me halls FTP 8) so the blokey might have just copied the install files offa the CD-ROM.

Anyway, XP is working fine for me atm. It's actually quite good (in most ways.) Now I'v just gotta get Mandrake working again. How the **** did my home drive manage to 'unmount' itself. Had it finished ? Or got sore ?
