My cat got sick over the weekend. She doesn´t eat anymore (or rather.. she´s eating a little bit, then stops) and has got scalls in her fur. Apart from that, she seems to be ok, no signs of pain, she´s moderately active and the "things in the catbox" are looking normal. Took her to the vet yesterday and he said it might be a liver or kidney problem. :(

Anyone here recognizing those symptoms?

my cat recently died of kidney failure. she used to be in quite a lot of discomfort when she ate, she'd make a sort of retching sound, and be tilting her head to one side when she ate because she had painful sores in her mouth. She was old though, almost 17.

Just keep an eye on her when she eats, if she looks like she is in discomfort at any point, take her to the vets again.

Thanks, I´ll keep an eye on that. So far, she doesn´t seem to have any pain while eating though.

Will take her to the vet again tomorrow for further examinations.

Think if it's something to do with the liver then you'd see the cat chucking up anything it eats/drinks with a lot of Bile in it, which is a yellow or green liquid.

A lot of the time when a animal gets sick, it doesn't want to eat it's normal diet. So try something light, didn't the vet recommend anything you should try to feed it with?

Yeah, kidneys are quite vulnerable organs for cats. Reason is mostly salty food and especially the dryed food. Basically everything except fresh meat is midldy toxical for cats, even chocolate, fruits, salad, most kinds of flowers (my cat loves to chew on my ficus... silly wabbit) and of course milk. Quite a lot of cats are dying from kidney failure every year.

He gave me something to spray on the fodder, but that´s pretty useless when the cat doesn´t want to eat. The vet needs to examine her blood, but that only works under full anaesthesia. No damn fooking way to pierce her with a needle, find a vein and safely remove some blood when she´s fully awake. :)

My cats loves licking the salt of potato crisps, and butter, might be why he sometimes throw up. He eat every day though and looks healthy, at the age of 15.

I guess that´s the same thing as "My grandma has been smoking all her life and she´s 88 now". Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t.

So true! :D
