Ok this one shouldn't be as bad as the last one.

F1 Vs WRC (IRL)

Is it me or is F1 a dying sport and the WRC and RAC rally getting more and more coverage than a/ it used to, and b/ than F1? As an amatuer rally driver/co-driver I've always prefered the action of a car travelling diagonally over a muddy hill to an F1 car going round and round and round and round made exciting only by the voice of Murray Walker. But alas even that too has gone from the sport :(

there's nothing like razzing your car around at breakneck speed in a proper kitted out rally car, you feel and probably are safer than you would be in a road car and you rarely travel in a forward motion, you feel like you're on a roller coaster or something, but you're in control.

F1 is good but it lost it's shine and the danager seems to be disappearing, look at WRC when that guy parked his Skoda on the cliff edge ;)

There is just more action in WRC, even though the cars are never near the trees sure as hell are.

I've preferred WRC to F1 all my life. As well as the games, the F1 games are always quite boring, also with F1 you can always tell which people are going to win, but with WRC something always happens in a race that makes it more unprictable.

For games, I prefer the extra control and speed of F1. IRL however, F1 is about the most boring thing ever to watch; round, and round, and round, and OH! will he overtake?! Almost... quite... noooo, didn't make it.. etc. It's the oldest cliche ever but I'd rather watch paint dry :/
Rally is more interesting to watch because more happens, frankly.

I find that F1 is more a demonstration of technology and teamplay than driver skill these days. Don't get me wrong, the drivers are awesomely skilled, but the emphasis is more on the car, and the pit factor.

The teamplay aspect isn't neccessarily bad in itself, but the reason it's so important now is, and it controls too much of the race outcome imo. The cars seem more fragile to little knocks than ever, and drivers are scared of throwing caution to the wind and trying that risky overtaking manouver. Therefore most races are won in the pits, or through tyre/setup choices. A good demonstration of team discipline and planning, but not very exciting.

The other bullshit new regulations are not helping either. Traction control? Launch control? Auto gearboxes? Pathetic. Where's the driver test in that? I think Eddie Irvine summed this one up totally once when he was interviewed after a race:

"You got off to a good start there Eddie."
"I didn't, some anonymous software guy did."

Or words to that effect.

I think the drivers in F1 need to stop being such little girls and realise they are being paid MILLIONS of pounds a season (and in some cases per race) to partake in a dangerous sport, for the purpose of entertaining us. They're always whinging about some safety aspect and really taking the fun out of watching it. I remember one such day at Spar (sp?) when they wanted a rolling start because it was raining. Wimps. At least good old Brundle set them all straight from the commentary box.

WTC for some reason though doesn't interest me. It's got everything F1 needs, but for some reason (I think because the cars aren't fast enough) it just doesn't excite me.

I hope F1 doesn't continually get worse at the same rate that it has been, because before long there won't be any motorsport that interests me at all.

That's the calculated risk you choose when you step into an F1 car. They get plenty of danger money. If they don't like the risk, they can quit.

WRC isn't about speed though, thats what makes the two sports completely different. The sport relies heavily on driver skill, for example Colin McRae hasn't won many rally championships, however his driving skill is fantastic, he puts the car at the exact angle he wants it and it goes where he wants it, he just suffers form bad luck most of the time and he tends to take risks. But thats what makes him one of the most recognised drivers if you see my point.
If you've ever had a go at rallying you'll find that taking it slow will give you a better time than putting your foot down and bouncing off the track.

Dunno about WRC or WTC or RAC Rally, etc - I went to see a stage once in some godforsaken forest in Wales...bitterly cold it was, raining and every 15 mins you got to see a car go past at Mach 2.3

Watching the crashes on the telly is 'k tho.

this may be a bit controversial, but fuck cars, bikes are waayyyy more exciting. WSB and GPs have absolutley kicked ass this year. Valentino Rossi is a God in the making, and hes still only 21 (i think)

And, rather more boringly, I race bicycles, which really is boring (unless your actually doing it):rolleyes:

I thought Skateboaders and BMXers skipped happily to the bowl and frolick'ed on the halfpipe of love, hand in hand. They used to when I had my PK Ripper (1986 btw)

i remember when that racing bloke (burger or something?) died in the early 1990's/late 1980's? was sad about that.

but honselty. rallying is more fun as even the experienced drivers get lynched (recent example being colin macrae(sp) and he went up the side of a bank thus reducing him a few places behind his bro) but in f1 its boring.................................................................and he does another lap.......and no....pit stop....wheel.....t.v. screen for latest corrie whilst waiting then away! and then schumacer wins anyway

As I understand it, they acknowledge eachothers existance & need to use 'teh leeto ramp!!1' or 'grinding wall!' ... They're a fickle subsection of society though, and numerous are the times that I've heard BMXers slate Skaters, and vice versa.

At some point I shall endevour to point out to them that it is a child's form of transport, acquire a car.

Formula 1 used to be a brilliant, exciting and incredible sport. It's died a death and is currently the most dull piece of shit ever. In the past - there were many equally strengthed drivers, teams and cars, and this lead for exciting and close races. Plenty of overtaking, lots of adrenaline and deadly exciting. As the 90s hit though, the sport started dying off as McClaren and Ferrari dominated to the extent it was boring. The way the cars are designed now, overtaking is only ever perfromed while someone is pitting. Man, excitement.

A similar argument could be used against rally, and is true to an extent... the driving around a course on your own against no-one in particular other than the clock (discluding the special stages, obviously) isn't hugely exciting. However, the way the drivers drive and hurl their NORMAL, EVERY DAY CARS (albeit supar-modded!11) is one of the most incredible things you can watch. It's amazing to see how far these guys can push it, and their driving skill is so immense you don't mind watching a car drive around a challenging track on its own.

The masses are beginning to move away from Formula 1 as it gets more and more dull and generic, and with the influx of rally games over the last few years, the general public's awareness of what used to be a rather inexplicable sport has picked up tremendously, to the extent that now every stage is covered on terrestrial television (Good one Channel 4 - *wub*).

For me, rally.

I don't know why but for some reason F1 has always held a much greater attraction for me. Rallying is more varied and exciting but it lacks something.

F1 is just so ridiculously big and fast and expensive, it has a strange type of charisma.

Having said that, I haven't watched much motorsport at all recently.

PS: I used to be a rollerblader and from what I remember we didn't like anyone else much :).
