Well using my ptshcic abilities, with the zero information your provided he could very well have retail CS -then again he could not.




Retail CS is the one that comes on a CD, and install without Half-life, version numbers are 1000,1001,1002,1003.

And yes he can use mods with it.

yes, but since CS is also a mod, it requires the HL engine, hence other mods are compatable with it.
edit: that sounded wrong.
CS retail is basically CS with the HL engine included, so it's almost the same as HL for mod issues.
