Agreed, those 9-10 tackles he put in during the first 15 minutes set the tone for the whole match, the guy was tireless all night. Smith and Fletcher did themselves real proud tonight, both put in match winning performances.

Grats to your lot as well, I love the never say die attitude of english football. It is one thing we can be truely proud about in our national game.

The first half was pretty poor from Chelsea, slow start, got caught around the half hour mark again, 3 players marking Villa and noone on Morientes.

The funny thing is though, for a player rated in the bracket of £25-40m, i don't think David Villa did anything truly spectacular, he was incredibly quiet the whole game, exactly like Ballack was/is.

And ironically enough it was when Chelsea went to a 4-3-3 that they started to really kick it into gear. Now all we need is Ballack to fck off, pop Essien on the right, Lampard on the left, Mikel in the holding role (he's getting pretty prolific now, keeping Makalele out for a reason!), then Joe cole in the front of the diamond just playing wherever he wants. His spirit was unbelievable tonight, the commentator continually spoke of his childish enthusiasm for the game.

To top it all off though my sister heard my dad and I erupting as she came down our road

What happened to that policeman in Italy was a tragedy and should never be allowed to happen again. That doesn't excuse the way the police reacted in Rome though, they allowed the Roma fans to barrage United fans with missiles for over 30 minutes while they did nothing to stop the Roma fans. The moment the United fans react the police wade in the United fans with battons blazing, many many innocent United fans were injured that night all because the police acted like thugs and were more interested in beating the English than doing thier job and policing the match even handedly. They are a disgrace, Roma and Italian politicians are an even bigger disgrace though, they justified the police action when the whole world could plainly see that it was an over reaction. Nothing suprises me in Italy anymore though, the thugs are starting to dominate your country and being allowed to get away with it, it is like the 1930's all over again and it is a damn shame. Italy is a beautiful country with a great many good decent people but the facist thugs ae gaining more and more power, the government and police seem happy to let it happen, a sad sad day for a great country.

I was surprised how far the police let it go last night the number of fans causing trouble must have caught them by surprise but if the news is true there were alot of other 'firms' causing trouble. If Milwall Leeds ect all showed up to fight the Italians it could explain why there was so much trouble.

On the real football factories TV Show (not sure how legit but the numbers come from the firms) Man Us main Firm has about 200 members and for the biggest fight seen Man U Liverpool they had 800 at one point but this is befor banning orders and the Police slapping the shit out of them. The guy said there are no real crews left as you can't fight anymore as the police know where you are too soon. And my favorite line from the whole series was 'The hardest gang in the UK is now the South Yorkshire Police, They are better tooled up have more men and are the meaniest of the lot' that made me lol

They are no Benito Mussolini and his blackshirts but they are hardly progressive by the standards of just about any other European nation. Until your polititians grow some balls and take on the facist bully boys such as these ultra groups your beautiful country will always be tainted by the acts of these savages. They are well on the way to killing football in Italy, crowds are close to all-time lows and your stadiums are falling apart for which there is no excuse in such a rich league with so many big clubs. Foreign fans do not want to travel to your country because they are afraid of the violence that may be inflicted upon them by these 'ultras' and the police themselves.

Please don't take this as a personal attack or as an attack on Italy itself. The problem lies with your polititians, police, football clubs and national football association. They always act either too late or make excuses and they are all too terrified to act these facist thugs, even UEFA lack the will to force Italy to clean it's act up.

England was in a very similar situation 20 years ago, UEFA banned us and the government were forced to act after Hillsborough so we ended up with many stadia that are the envy of the world, the hooligan element were harrased by the police to the point where they became almost irrelevant. Italy could do exactly the same but until the people in charge start to learn the lessons that England learnt and also build some proper stadiums I am sorry to say that things are only going to get worse.

By no means i want to defend a Government which allows in its Political Coalition 2 parties who directly connects emselves with Communism. That said, in a Political set of laws that was voted by the precedent government (but never been really put in act) there were several limitations on "politicization" of Fans Club. This government reiterated that set of Laws, and we gonna see what will happen now.

To be completely honest to u the political "conflict" radicalization doesn't have a color (be it red or black) cause the very same morons that in the week end go to the Stadium with svaticas flags, the very next day meet in the Social Clubs of Extreme Anarchism. The main problem lies in the connections that (historically) tied up the Extreme fringes of Fans Clubs and the Properties of Football Clubs emselves. There are some examples of Properties who started to hold off this connections (like Lazio president Lotito who've been even threaten of death by the Irruiducibili Supporters), can only hope that more will follow these examples.

16 arrested, 12 English and 4 Italian. However 2 of the English were 16 year olds arrested near the ground for criminal damage, 1 was arrested on a public order offence not related to the violence. The rest of the English were people who reacted to the flare being thrown into the United fans near the megastore, a handful charged at the Roma fans and the others were all caught throwing missles back at those Roma fans. All in all the police did a great job, not one serious injury and anyone breaking the law was arrested within seconds regardless of nationality. The didn't wade in with batons to the head, I saw one policeman take a thug down with a strike to the legs after which he was handcuffed and arrested. Exactly as it should be. No one is above the law here, English or not.
