great goals, how stupid was mascherano?!? he argued with the ref even when it was in their favour him and torres both muppets
would love to know why and what he said though![]()
Think the ref should probably of taken him to one side and let him know very clearly that once more and he'd get a second yellow before actually producing it.
That said i'm not a fan of players constantly bickering over descisions so it's nice to see something happen about it. Just a shame that it seems it has to be either nothing or completely over the top. Somewhere in the middle of today and normal would make sense to me and I think the ref could certainly of handled it better.. Think it was based more on what's happened over the rest of the week than simply on what happened today which is a shame.
Apparently Bennett got slammed by his bosses for not walking on the pitch and sending Cashley off mid-week when he was forth official (seems strange comment as it upto the actual ref imo).
That probably had something to do with it, but at least 5 times Masch was arguing with the ref, a few of them included swearing at him. Including the constant f*** off's when he was booked first time.
well rooney stayed on his feet in the first half and if he had of fell over we would have had a penalty. Until the refs start giving them the players feel like they have to fall over.
Yeah like I said I can't really argue too much about it.
I just think a better ref would of pulled him aside during one of the earlier incidents and given him a warning (next time your off) instead of just ignoring him during the other 5 which might of made him think twice. It's the see-sawing between never handing out yellows for descent for 8 months followed by waving a yellow at every word said overnight that i'm not fond of.
It's not like every other footballer i've watched in the last year hasn't been seen mouthing F words at every descision that's been handed out. There's been warnings from the press all week so he was stupid sure, but what he did hundreds of players this season have done and had nothing happen. If your going to change the rules suddenly, at least give the players some signs it's coming on the day.
To an extent Mash was made an example of after what Wankly Cole did on Wed. Both deserved to be sent off, Cole for the challenge and for his stupid little tantrum. Was absolutely devasted last night, i deliberately didnt look at teletext all day, turned my phone off etc so i could watch it on motd later. Hard to tell what Liverpool players played well or badly because in the highlights i think the only peice of Liverpool play shown was Aurelio's shank across goal. Score line should have read Spain 2 United 1 tbh. Reina speaks for himself, but Alonso needs to get some strength. Both in Ronaldo's goal and in his feeble attempts to hold Mash back. Dont want to watch or read anything about football for the next 5 days.
Thought Reina did well apart from the 2 crosses and at least he kept the score respectable because it looked like it could have been a rout at one point. I have to disagree with Corran though, he was not Liverpool's best player. That was Mascherano before he was sent off, he had been doing a brilliant job of closing Scholes and Anderson down when they were running with the ball plus he had swept things up at the back a couple of times as well. He didn't put any passes astray and his energy levels were excellent. That is why it was such a shame for Liverpool to have lost him because frankly you could have sent Gerrard or Kyut off and no one would have noticed but from the moment Mascherano walked Liverpool were dire.
Liverpool literally done nothing the whole game, that be why there was nothing to show. Gerrard did not turn up at all for the match, Torres was just out the game totally. He made one skillful run into the box then got smashed by about 3 united players tackling him at the same time. Other then that and the Aurelio shot nothing happened.
To be quite frank, even with the major blunders (ie 2 flaps and a funny throw out to Anderson amoungst them) Reina was by far your best player. Without him it would have been 6 or 7 goals.
Defence? They were poor and let in United to often. Hardly a good tackle to speak about. And the tracking of runs was non existant.
Midfield? Didnt get near the ball. United simply passed around them all day long and they never looked like getting close. Anderson and Scholes were supreme though in their distribution.
Attack? Babel made I think 2 good runs all match but either put a poor cross in or ran into trouble. Torres put a single good run in, other then that he rarely go near ball. And Kuyt... well I wont say what I think of him, but he was nowhere to be seen the whole match.
Liverpool were so poor, at times I forgot that Gerrard Kuyt and Torres were playing. The match was only made exciting to watch due to some slick football by united and Reina being Grobler mode!
Whilst Mascherano has no defence and deserved to be sent off, a better referee would have avoided the situation altogether by talking to the player and/or his captain before it came to sending him off.
Also, anyone else feel that Mascherano and Liverpool have paid for what Cole and Chelsea did last Wednesday (something they do every game and should have been punished for long ago)
