Bizarre,

English football still seems to be top of the beatings list for the crap that went on in the 80's.

There's a whole host of European countries with a worse record over the last five or so years but we always seem to get the official spankings :(

We stood up to the agressors, probably alot more than your lot did? We lost millions of lives defending the rest of Europe, how many did you lose?

well a country like denmark with a tiny population & army compared to GB is hardly going to be able to stand up to a country like germany... the danish resistance was however one of the most succesful in europe at saving the lives of danish jews... so ner ner ner :p

and what the hell does WW2 have to do with UEFA and hooligans?!?!

Didn't a fair few Danes conspire with the Nazi's as well? Didn't the Danish goverment hand over some Jew's to Germany that eventually ended up in the death camps? As always there are good and bad everywhere.

My point is this, Great Britain gave millions of lives fighting Hitler and Napoleon to help keep Europe free. In return we got scorn and ingratitude, we are treated as outcasts. That is what we got for doing the right thing.

Dont forget WW1!

Oh, and places like Iraq and Afghanistan, I know it might have been a false war to begin with but we, along with the Yanks, have ousted two of the worlds most brutal and opressive regimes.

Not forgetting the first Gulf War, might have been oil but we helped Kuwait stand up against Iraq.

Afghanistan was justified, as was Kuwait in many ways although Bush really did want to invade Iraq first time round but the Russians would not let it happen. Iraq now is just a smokescreen to control the flow of oil to the west.

Britain had no underhand reasons for fighting Hitler though, it was either defend our friends or betray them and eventually be conquered ourselves. As usual we stuck by our word and defended our neighbours, 60 years on and they still treat us like the red-headed bastard step-child of Europe.

Rescue of the Danish Jews

Ninety-nine percent of the Jewish population was rescued and survived the war years, mostly in neutral Sweden and a few hundred in Theresienstadt under the distant but constantly protective concern of the Danes.

about 500 were sent to the camp theresienstadt but it wasnt a death camp ;)

also denmark was the one of the few places were not only werent the jews handed over, but when they eventually returned the vast majority found their houses intact, whereas elsewhere they had been looted, sorry to go offtopic on in this thread but i dont honestly get the british obsession with WW2 andsaving the world (you always seem to forget that british forces were pushed out of france until the yanks arrived), the rest of europe isnt holding some nasty grudge but the truth of the matter is this has nothing to do with WW2 and everything to do with past record (80's and 90's violence for example, leeds fans in turkey some years back etc), i completely agree that this is a harsh view of liverpool (the italians and polish for example are much worse and britain seems to be only ones taking a proper stance on hooliganism) but theres really no need to drag WW2 into it everytime another country complains about the UK

Urm.. guys? Aren´t you taking this a tad too far now? The war is over since 60+ years. Every generation is responsible for its time. It took our nations long enough to get over this nationalism crap, so there´s no need to warm it up ever now and then when it somehow fits your goals.

This is about football and the biassed judgementof the fans. Yes, bad call there. Last years incidents in the italian league were WAY too far. That said, I never understood the connection between foorball and holliganism, i.e. why football fans seem to have a tendency to resort to violence.

We stood up and were counted in WW2, for nearly 3 years by outselves. France crumbled and fell like they did in the first world war. Britain, with pilots from Poland and Belgium, fought and won the Battle of Britain, stopping Hitler in his tracks.

America only got brought into the war because they were caught with the pants down by those crafty Japanese.

what the hell? english football hooligans having a bad reputation = europe does not respect englands contribution to WWII? Its been 60 years since the war, has just the same relevance for most people today as napoleon defeating the swedes or something. but sure, :england:

You still don't see it, I mention World War 2 for a reason. If we hand't stood against Hitler in 1939 the rest of Europe would now be a part of Greater Germany but because we held out on our own for 2 years we were able to build an alliance and eventually drive the Germans out of the countries they occupied. In doing so we lost a great many lives to free other European nations, not for the first time in recent history either. In return we are always the scapegoat whenever they get a chance to lay blame at our door.

So, why do I feel that Europe is ungrateful and has an axe to grind? Well for a start as a country we are not made to feel that we are a part of Europe, Brits who holiday all over Europe will tell you the same stories, that alot of Europeans treat us like we are diseased just because we are British. We are subjected to ridiculous legistation from Europe that half of Europe doesn't follow and yet when we don't tow the line we get taken to court and fined millions. No other country does, especially the French. We get little or no respect from most European nations, they all have short memories. They forget all those British lives lost fighting to set them free, that is what makes me angry, too quick to blame the British and yet far to slow to remember the sacrafices me we made for them.

European institutions like UEFA always find a way to bash the British even when they don't have any grounds, the perfect example would be what happened during the Lille and Roma games against United this season. The local police failed to control the crowd and show proper restraint, instead the played a game of 'lets beat the English!'. The French blame the English fans even though the video footage shows a completely different story. In Italy the exact same problem, crowd violence because of poor stadia/stewarding and even worse policing. The English are blamed again this time by the Italians, UEFA again are happy to blame the English even though the evidence says otherwise. Why? Well because English fans are the easy scapegoat because they have a history of trouble from 20 years ago so they must be the problem right? Nothing to do with scumbag police who let the home fans throw missliles while they watch on and then baton charge the English fans because they react? Nothing to do with crumbling stadia that aren't fit to host a football match from the 1970's nevermind 2007?

We were kicked out of European football for 5 years because of our fans behaviour and crap stadia. What happened to Italy when murders occur in or around the ground? When a policeman is mudered by Italian football hooligans? When 90% Italian stadia aren't fit to be used as pig styes? They get a slap on the wrist and are allowed to carry on competing.

Turkey and Greece. Regular violence at football matches, stadia that wasn't fit for purpose when they were built 50 years ago nevermind in 2007 but still they get a pat on the back and are allowed to compete. How many fans travelling to Turkey to watch teams compete have been stabbed to death there in the last 10 years? Still nothing done.

The only nation UEFA have ever taken serious action against was England and they were right to ban us for those 5 years by the way, we needed to get our act together and we did. We now have the best stadia in Europe and very very rarely do we have an hooligan problems in the Premier League because we now know how to police a football game properly. The rest of Europe should be learning from us but instead they blame us when our fans are attacked and fight back, they blame us instead because it is easier than admitting that they can't organise security and stadia properly.

Now they are picking on Liverpool. Yes there were problems but have you or they asked why? 17,000 tickets for each team and 30,000 tickets for UEFA's lackies, does that seem fair? Then they wonder why the blackmarket was thriving and people were prepared to sneak into the ground or even steal tickets? Then look at the stadia, how can you hold a football match in a stadium not designed for football? A stadium with no turnstiles? A stadium with one fire door seperating the public toilets outside the grounds from the toilets inside the ground, it was a disaster waiting to happen and security was almost non-existant.

Now I am not excusing those Liverpool fans who stole tickets or sneaked into the ground, they are scum because those actions are the acts of scum. Condsider this though, if that game had been played in a modern FOOTBALL stadium and the tickets had been allocated to each club fairly would there have been a problem or at least a problem that was as extreme as what happened in Athens? If anyone is to blame for what happened there it is UEFA, the event was mismanaged from the start and it could have cost lives. The will never admit that of course, blame the English it is easier and the rest of Europe will happily believe the worst.

While i think alot of the the shit that comes down on English football is bang out of order in this case it is not. The Liverpool fans were fucking stupid. On what planet do 500 fans with no tickets get let into the ground to sit and watch a game. They did break down the fence they did then rush police to try get into the ground and the got knocked back the only way 50 cops could stop 500 fans. In his case Liverpool were clearly in the wrong.

Some of us don't want to be part of Europe :p I don't even consider myself to be European.

As for the hate, dunno where it comes from, i don't really care :) most young Europeans i meet and speak to don't dislike us, just some of the elderly people. ofc we hate the French and they hate us, its part of what makes us British and what makes them French :p they are just bitter we have handed their arses to them at every opportunity and then when they are in the shit from someone else we step in to defend them. oldy but a goody

Before the self self righteous start crying into their copy of the guardian the last bits were tongue in cheek, i love the French, bless the little surrender monkeys

Pardon? Liverpool were in the wrong? How do you come to that conclusion?

UEFA handled ticketing, UEFA picked the venue, UEFA arranged the security. If any of the above were flawed then UEFA are as much to blame as those people who entred illegally. Those incidents could not have occured if UEFA had organised the event properly from day one, past events prove that, choose a good modern FOOTBALL stadium and it is much easier to control security. The ticketing was UEFA's fault as well, you cannot allocate half the tickets to both clubs and then give the other half to member associations/sponsers then expect the fans not to buy tickets on the black market. The lack of tickets caused alot of fans to travel hoping to buy from the blackmarket in Athens, when those tickets ran out the morons resorted to breaking the law to get in. Then you had the 100's of Liverpool fans who had tickets but couldn't get in because the security was such a shambles that they were turned away, again that is down to UEFA's poor organisation of the event.

Liverpool football club should not be blamed for any of the above, UEFA made a clusterfuck and some criminals broke into the ground, LFC played no part in either and it could have all been avoided had UEFA done thier damn job properly.

Sorry but uefa cant be blamed for 500 Liverpool fans breaking down a fence at the stadium and then trying to make it past police to actually get into the ground. That is totally unacceptable and not Uefas fault at all.

Fair enough the ticeking was suspect but those fans must have been morons if they though "we know lets just knock down a fence run past those cops and sit down in the stadium and hope no one cares".

I do not know how the blame for that incident can be leveled at anyone but the Liverpool fans.

That is because you can't see beyond the end of your nose then.

There wouldn't have been 500 Liverpool fans breaking down any fence if the match had been held at a football stadium with turnstiles. Instead the held it at an athletics stadium that had no crowd control infrastructure, regardless of those 500 scumbags being at the ground they could not have got in if the security hadn't been so crap. That is UEFA's responsibilty, as is the match ticketing fiasco. Hell even the British Government are looking into it and the sports minister is demanding answers from UEFA.

Im sorry you will never convice me that fans with out tickets are allowed to force there way into a stadium because the venue is not up to scratch.

While i will agree the whole game was bullshit those idiots breaking in because they had no tickets was bang out of order.

And where did I say otherwise? I am not trying to convince you of that, they are a bunch of fucking losers who broke the law. What I am saying is that it couldn't have happened if UEFA had done thier job, you can't get 500 people rushing through turnstiles.

My family lost 8 people in World War 2 so I suggest you shut the fuck up, most of them would still be alive till this day if they hadn't been saving your arse from the Nazi's. We don't want credit for it, we want the respect for our nation that our grandfathers fought for.

geez, wasn't the good old ps3 vs 360 discussions enough for you guys? :)

I cant say that I agree with everything Cho says, however English football is an easy target to blame, when it comes to international football. Liverpool having the whorst fans in europe? that's bullshit! those ultras or whatever they're called in Italia, are much worse, and they're not even half as bad as the supporters from Turkey/Greece.

That is ok bud, I don't expect everyone to share my point of view. I am glad you can see that English football is an easy target though, now you just have to ask yourself what is UEFA's motivation.
