So far I'm enjoying it. I think you can only play the first 6 months of the season or something. Theres only the English and Scottish database and its far from finished they've said. The commentry is the same as cm 03/04 so is alot of the news you recieve which sort of sucks. The way you can play mind games with other teams and managers is cool and so is the way scouts send you video clips of promising players. Teams get docked points for going into administration also.
Basically its more of an upgrade for cm 03/04 which is by no means a bad thing. :D New interface takes some getting used to but its pretty.

Hehe, O'Leary said he didn't think I had a chance of winning the title this year now Henry, Pires and a few others have said they are determined to prove him wrong. :) And I stuck up for this conference manager and he now said he looks up to me. :p this rules :p

Played this extensively for a few weeks - really top notch game, very solid - very enjoyable. A vast improvement on the old SI Champ Managers - can't wait till it comes out.

I think it's horrid and looks as if it was designed by a clumsy dyslexic twat.

Lol :D

Really it ain't that bad, confusing at first when you've been playing cm 03/04 for 6 hours a day, but you get used to it. It sucks that you have to go to the squad page to get to the player search, and sometimes it can be slow responsive but they have said the beta is a full database with everything maxed, whereas usually they use the smallest database.

Great fun, although I had lots to do last night and got nothing done thanks to that game!!!

I can't figure out how to change my captain, help please :) Also - any tips on players to look out for at the lower leagues or good free transfers?

In my first attempt I took Villa from top of the Premiership (three wins on the trot) to 13th. Then I tried playing as Chelsea -- have a look at their weekly wage bill, and the amount you have to spend. Unfortunately with the transfer window you don't have a lot of time to wheel and deal.

You have to go to your squad, then tactics, then where the pitch with your players is click the VIEW button, then set your captains in order. :)

I need transfers too, can't find Fredy William Thompson, Braathan, Adu, Roncatto etc. :p And the Diablo tactic does nothing!!!

Some of the values are a bit dodgy though. Lehmann worth 6.25mill? He's 34 and a liability. :p

Do you think they will put all new commentry and news in the finished version? It wouldn't require much work... I really am sick of reading the exact same stuff as from cm 03/04.

First impressions are

"omg! wheres this! wheres that!" it seems like its arse ways about with the menu's and stuff.

Also dont like the new squad selection.. i played a bit as Everton, and everytime i goto the squad screen, the midfielders are first (Unlike usual games where GK>Def etc)

hmm

Thought this was shit tbh.

I prefer footy games where there's actual honest to god gameplay.

Pro Evo's Master League anyone?

Pro Evolution, like all football games, is shit in single player and only worth bothering with when you have one or more friends joining in.

Was so glad that #3 allowed Master League to have two players involved in one team in the Master League and hope #4 has the same.

Somehow doubt that Sports Interactive would come up with a football management game that doesn't have any gameplay though as they are the past masters of it all. I know I'll be getting it regardless and I am 99% sure it will be better that Championship Manager 5 - published by Eidos, programmed by nobodies.

The Championship Manager series has always been one of those 'love it or hate it' kind of games really.

Personally, I'm dreading this being released. Once again my life will be completely and utterly taken over by a game. I will lose skin tone from lack of sun, I will be muttering tactics on my train into work, my dreams will be haunted by statistics and my social life will crumble into ruin.

Never mind the heartache of giving up my beloved team in the current CM..... Why must they keep doing this to me???

On a different note, does the demo give any indication of how system heavy the game will be? Don't want to play the demo, I'm saving myself for the final release.

They used the largest database for the demo so you can see how much strain it puts. I have 1gb ram, 1.5ghz cpu and a radeon 9700 pro and the only time (apart from the odd 5 second loading screens) that i have to watch scores being shown is when its a big european day, or international qualifiers etc.

Just so you know (if you didn't already). "Football Manager" IS Championship Manager. The 4th divorce you didn't mention there was that of SI and publisher Eidos. If I remember correctly, Eidos kept the name (and maybe the rights to the layout, if such things exist) and SI kept the actual code. Eidos are working on Championship Manager 5 using a different team, so who knows what that'll be like.

Give linkage!!! I played the beta until about mid January where I had the Villa in third place in the Premiership, had signed Wiltord and Asprilla on free transfers and was in the semi final of the League Cup, leading Blues 1-0 after the first leg. Then the beta announced that I couldn't play anymore of the season and promptly closed. Harsh!!! ><

Eidos were allowed to keep the name and "the look and feel of the game". Hence why FM's UI has changed massively; due to legal implications no screen/buttons etc must look alike.

Eidos' team of coders have never done a football manager game before. They're all football nuts but this is new to them. Rumour has it from those who have played CM5 is utter, utter tripe.

After having played the demo version of FM2005, I can safely say that my social life is over when they release the full version.....

I know one of those divorcees - used to work with him - he's in the games industry and still gets palpitations whenever a new CM (or "Football Manager") comes out, but he's weaned himself off it now.

I doubt that it'll ever see the light of day. Eidos are quite deep in the financial mire at the moment and talk is that they'll be lucky to see out the year.

Download the new FM demo(s) at:

Well, they're spending marketing cash on it (sponsored that football reality thing on Sky - "The Match" a couple of weeks ago), so I reckon it will happen, I don't think Eidos will go down the pan overnight - they've still got cash.

Would be a shame if they did, they've done some pretty nice stuff over the years. The financial section of a newspaper (The Times, I think) ran a story about them a little while ago. It went along the lines of 'they're knackered if they can't find a buyer'. Granted, they didn't use those exact words, but that was the basic jist of it....
