To be a truly world class player, you have to perform on the world stage. I can only recall one game where Gerrard has performed and that was in the 5-1 drubbing of Germany.

Players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (brazilian), Kaka, Messi, Nesta, Maldini Cannavaro etc etc are true world class players because they consistently perform on the world stage.

To be a truly world class player, you have to perform on the world stage. I can only recall one game where Gerrard has performed and that was in the 5-1 drubbing of Germany.

Problem is that they have proved themselves great players in Europe as well as domestic. Both have played well against highly ranked players/midfield setups but for England they both play way below their potential.

Is it becuase of what's around them or because they're crap? Personally think Gerard is a great player given time on the ball his passing and vision is amongst the best and his movement is generally good.

How many players underperform for England? Just about everyone on the pitch. Seems to be more of team mental problem than capability. Maybe they don't train enough together.

.... the ref was a joke though, granted united were fairly awful (no rooney ronnie, glad theyre both early 20s as we cant do owt without em)

but cmon, there was 5 or 6 obvious crap decisions a neutral could have spotted, primus cleared a cross by heading it out unchallenged and a GK was given, evra's tackle at end of 1st half was obviously clean, why was nolan booked when davies had committed about 5fouls worse than what he got yellow'd for etc etc (thought evra had a pretty legit penalty claim as well, he did 2 players and was brought down in the box i mean wtf? though it wasn't as wtf as robbie keanes against west ham, anyone see that?was a good game as well- lets laugh at defoe etc)

At the time being, I wouldnt call Ronaldinho and Ronaldo as a world class player according to their daily perfomance, more likely world class "clubbers"

I can see the point you are trying to raise but for me, if Gerrard was a true world class player, he would perform.

Ok that list of players is a true list of world class players but trust me if any of those guys had played for Wales the story would be different. Ryan Giggs for example is a world class player, however if you look at Wales in the WC's this doesnt refelct this. As the expression goes, one hand cant clap.

What i am trying to say is that you are partially correct that the teams they were in were not the strongest in the world, however, they all had solid dependable players that could play their individual positions to a very decent level.

Fix up with a decent manager and trust me England will do well. I still remember the days England played under Venables and the way that England played under this guy when he was in charge was the best i had seen England play in a looOoong time.

All the top players are earning top money not because they are shit but because they are quality players, Gerrard and Lampard included. If you have a manager that doesnt seem to understand what the rest of the entire UK has figured out (that they dont play well together) there aint going to be much hope for the team. How on Gods earth is he going to be able to have the tactical know how to beat any team with a half decent manager? I think people are forgetting this moron dropped Beckham for the game against Croatia ffs the man is a brain dead cabbage and is just a true case of one Parmo too many

Well, even if I agree with u, I'd like to stress the fact that all the players in that list (cept Valderrama) played in top notch clubs, and were, if not their "franchise" player, one of them. However, they played for "modest" nations, where they were the absolute nº 1 and all the teamplay was built around them, thus making it easier to shine in a world stage. Although, I admit that putting ur "modest" nation beyond quarters is such an achivement .

Ryan Giggs has always performed well, even getting recognition off, mm think it was Dunga who told the press after a game vs Wales he would love Giggs playing for Brazil.

That said, for a guy who has been playing for 16 years and notched up 700+ games for united. How has he only played 60 games for Wales?? I think he went 7-8 years without playing a friendly game for Wales lol
