Barcelona's talented youngster Bojan Krkic is likely to be called up to Spain's squad for next week's friendly against France in order to prevent him from being poached by Serbia, said national coach Luis Aragones.

"He's only 17, but he has made extraordinary progress. He's got quality, an eye for goal and could be a great player," Aragones told sports daily AS on Wednesday.

"Yes, we might call him up now. My idea that he comes now to stop him going to another national team.

"He's an extraordinary lad and we've been nurturing him through all the youth categories in the national set-up."

Known to Barcelona fans simply as "Bojan", Krkic's father is Serbian but he was born in Spain in Linyola in the province of Lleida. The forward has said he wanted to play for Spain.

Bojan made a name for himself by notching up over 800 goals during his time in the Barcelona youth team set-up and scored on his debut for the first team in an exhibition match against Egyptian side Al-Ahly last April.

He was one of the most eye-catching players in last year's Under-17 World Cup in South Korea and was instrumental in helping Spain get to the final.

However, he received a red card in the dying seconds of the semifinal against Ghana and missed the final against Nigeria, which Spain lost on penalties.

He made his Primera Liga debut against Osasuna this season and became the youngest player to score for the club in the league when he found the net in the 3-1 win over Villarreal in October.

If he plays against France he will become the youngest player to be capped by Spain, beating the previous record set by Athletic Bilbao's Angel Zubieta in 1936.

Zubieta won the first of his two caps at the age of 17 years and nine months while Bojan will be three months younger.

Bojan scored a cracking goal at the weekend, just stroked the ball between defender and keeper into the bottom corner. There is no doubt he has the potential to go all the way.

In a bit of trouble this year are Barca, Vasconcelos will probably be able to elabarote more. Not quite gelling and being hampered by injuries and African nations. Will be interesting to see what Ronaldinhos latest come back will be like

Superb player. Serbian father (played in some 2nd division club years ago) and spaniard mom. Hes Spain's hope for a future championship along with the incoming generation of youngsters: Cesc, Ramos, Piqué...

I think even if national manager doesnt force his debut, he would chose to play for Spain anyway.

If theres something i envy from Barca nowadays is the work of its youth clubs: Bojan, Dos Santos, Iniesta, Piqué, Arteta, Cesc.... Grrr RM has to settle with Casillas :(

Can't believe Barcelona are churning out world class youngsters so much.

Marc do you think he'll stay hoping to break into the first 11 or move elsewhere to develop?

Barca is suffering from the same syndrome RM did 3-4 years ago: a generation of superb players (Zidane, Figo, R.Carlos, Ronaldo, Raul,...) who had won everything in football, with multimillionaire contracts, gross sponsors and little will to sacrifice.
Barca is suffering from the stagnation of its model. Also, the famous "tickitacka" way of playing isnt making them any good. Something the sport journalist made up from the style of having the possesion of the ball during most part of the game. Problem is that while Barca has the ball, they seem to have lost the capacity of generate goal ocassions with it, atm they just move the ball from one side to the opposite w/o going anywhere. Ppl around here use to say that most Premier fans would just laugh at that, something which i agree. Football isnt about having 100% posesion of the ball, but creating goal chances and scoring it.

On the other side, RM went throu a change on their management board. Despite trying to sign big names (Kaka or CR) w/o success, they opted to try and make a squad based on the experience of contrasted players with a great will and hunger like Cannavaro, Heinze, Ruud and Raul mixed wtih some talent (Robinho, Ramos & Guti) and the work of good players like Sneijder, Diarra or Pepe. Also RM has Casillas ofc. They have a strong mentality, will to win everygame by all means, no relief untill minute 90' (or further), which have lead them to top the Liga with a 9points diff to barca, 13/15 to the 3rd and 4th teams, 100% victories on home matches, 2 lost matches and 1 tied.
One test you can do (if u have some notions of spanish) is hang around barca afilliated tabloids like SPORT.
RM learnt from the Galacticos syndrome and the crowd at Bernabeu dont even want to hear that nefarious term ever. It proved to be a short term model which only leads to failure and Barca is just confirming it.

PS: soz if i looked a bit hooligan'esque :p

Hard to say. I dont really know. Barca havent loaned dos santos out whos pretty much in the same boat as Bojan, so it looks like they will just blood him in the first team.

Vasc, whats Dos Santos' brother like? I havent seen him play but Ive heard Barca officials think he has the potential to be better than his big brother

Havent seen him a single time. When Dos Santos started to participate with Barca senior team, i remember reading sumwhere about a brother signed to make Giovani comfortable in his new life in Barcelona, prolly BS but who knows.

Anyways, dont hold yer breath with Dos Santos, the guy is just a ? right now, it might end as another Ronaldinho or just Denilson v2 (he got some boo's from the Camp Nou crowd recently)
