Ok let's get some debate going..

Is Berbatov really worth the hype? with the rumour season kicking in, apparently he wants to leave Spurs in January..

This is my view, last season he scored 12 league goals in 33 games, played brilliant in his first season in english football..

This season he has scored 8 goals in 19 games - which 4 were against Reading who even Portsmouth scored 7 against!!
His attitude on and off the pitch has been awful at times, start of the season he clearly was pissed off that he wasn't allowed to join Utd..

I have a really bad feeling he will join Utd for £30m, and again we will be ripped off like many other players we have signed..

Good player without doubt, but not for silly money.

he has the skill i think but his attitude is shocking vs Arsenal he just mopped around did not track back and really looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. But his flashes of brilliance do make you think the right team and his attitude picks up he could be special.

So i think it could go two ways he joins Utd stays a lazy fucker and is a flop, or he starts putting his heart and 100% into the game and he is a sensation, and looks cheap for £30mil.

I think in a striker there's actually something to be gained by appearing to be a bit lazy.

I've seen many games where strikers put everything into a game and as a result get picked up 100% of the time. If you look at the first goal he scored at the weekend it came because he looked like he couldn't really give a crap, the defender took his eye off him for a second and he was gone.
I'd actually imagine if he had looked alive and awake in the build up he'd of been much better marked when the chance came in.

United already bought thier 4th striker, the Angolan player Manucho.

I like that name as you can imagine, being a ManU fan named Chodax! :D

Berbs will not be bought, United won't pay the price that Spurs are demanding when we can get two world class players for that kind of money elsewhere.

Attitude really does seem to be a bit suspect but you cant deny he is an excellent striker.

I would be worried as a Spurs fan though, really doesnt look like he wants to play for them at the moment, even when he scores there isnt much of a celebration, just looks like he's kiling time till moving on.

If Man Utd have already bought their 4th striker it'll be interesting to see where he ends up with the transfer window opening tommorow.

Knowing our luck though Grant will drop the almost inevitable bid for Anelka and go for Berbatov instead, fuck it up and end up with noone :(

Lol - if we could secure Berbatov it'd be great, but i don't it being a reality. I'd rather have Anelka as he looks the more likely to make the move.

But apparently Grant has been given 'substantial funds' this window, so it'll be interesting to see what players he's after, newspaper rumours are saying Anelka, Maicon and Daniel Alves.

Why we need more fullbacks i don't know :s

A few rumours i have seen say Kaka or Ronaldiniho seeing as the later gets benched when Henry is fit who knows big enough bid and maybe. It looks like Berbatov wants to leave his form gose throuh the roof coming up to the transfer window. Add to that Spurs are run by a business the right bid will make him yours.

But please buy Kaka so he dose not up his game vs us in the champs league :)

Lol :p

Out of interest - can players who switch clubs in the january window play in 2 european competitions. I.e Anelka has played for Bolton in the Uefa cup, but would that cup-tie him for the Champions League?

I think so you only get cup tied for one competition?

No he is cup tied for all european competitions for this season.

Oh and if United could by anyone in the next month I would love it to be Anelka, he is the perfect replacement for Saha. Stronger, more robust and more goals.

Iirc UEFA rules state that player qualfication for both UEFA club competitions are directly tied, this is because 3rd placed clubs at the league stage of the champions league automatically qualify for the knockout stages of the UEFA cup. Without the ruling players could be competing against clubs they just left which could be exploited in a number of ways.

I don't see it happening, the last thing United need is another striker who isn't tall. It does look like United will be trying to sign Alan Hutton from Rangers though and Wes will be out the door for a million quid to Sunderland or Spurs.

Just had a call from a mate whos brother and dad work as stewards at Old Trafford, they told him that there were rumours amongst the staff last week that United were considering making a bid on Benni McCarthy.

For once I hope and pray that a rumour is correct.

Blackburn wouldn't sell him imo, Benni on the other hand has become unsettled at Ewood in the last month or so. Could be an ideal candidate for United, just over 6 foot and can mix it up physically but has alot of skill on the ball as well.

I don't see anyone buying Berbatov though, not with a silly £25 million transfer fee involved.

Yep id be happy with him, wouldn't cost a lot, he's a natural goal scorer also.

Only downside he will be cup-tied for the CL..then again so will the majority of decent strikers out there..

And he likes a goal vs Arsenal another bonus :) But he has not looked very happy lately seems to start from the bench allot.

Hmm, sounding almost like the Rafalution at Anfield. Seems that plagiarism is still the greatest form of flattery xD

Hes buggering straight off to Africa for the nations cup though..
but i think Berbs is a really big possibility for Man utd, Fergie would whip him into shape or he won't get a game and he will know that.
It will happen if not in Jan then in Summer as Saha will be oft..

Also, Lahm as well please..
