Folder Layouts & Views in XP

I finally discovered the usefulness of Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply To All Folders last night, managing to have all my folders display with Detail view very nicely.

However, overall, I don't want *all* my folders like this. Certainly not just like this.

I like the have grouping assigned to music artist folders to split up by album, and I want all my pictures in Thumbnail views.

I *could* go through all the individual folders and change the settings manually, but there are a LOT of folders.

Is there a tool or hack that will let me change folder view settings en mass including icon style and grouping options, then apply it to all subfolders?

In addition, I know I could use the the "Customise" tab on the root folder's properites page, however the two folders in question: "MY Music" and "My Pictures" are protected and have this tab removed!
