Flying

Right I'm flying out on holiday on Saturday. Never had a problem with planes till I hit 18 and since then I've been a nervous wreck. I'm normally okay until the rollercoaster style turbulence hits and then I'll find my palms getting sweaty gripping onto the chair for dear life :/

Trans-atlantic flights have a pretty good safety record so I don't think it's a fear of death. Maybe a fear of losing control as I'm not much of a theme park fan.

Anyway, please share your anecdotes or advice that might make my crossing a little more pleasant :)

what time are you flying? Best place in the world to view a sunrise or sunset is above the clouds.

Take advantage of the free alcohol, it's not going to be around much longer. American Airlines have started charging for meals on flights, and their one world partners will probably follow suit.

I just did 7 flights, and I started getting nervous after the third one. Just silly thoughts that dissapear after the extreme security checks you get now.

If your still having trouble, try sleeping as soon as possible.

well if your worry about things like that all your life, youd never go anywhere. think about it, the pilots been flying for thousands of hours and most commercial pilots are ones who came from being in the RAF flying fighter jets. you dont get scared of someone driving you around do you? i think i read your more likely to die being a pedestrian or in a car than you are in a plane. oh and the last time i flew, everyone gave a round of applause to the pilot when we landed cos the plane never jolted at all.

Might have to pop into the pub get tanked up beforehand. What's the price of alcohol like in flight?

We're flying American Airlines as it happens, thought it'd be a good choice cos they have more leg room apparently. Gonna be a bit of an arse if we have to pay for our little pots of boiled vegetables and cottage pie.

Usually alcohol and drinks are free!

I once saw a guy drink a can of beer every hour on an 11 hour flight....

What is there to be scared about? You're more likely to die driving to the airport, than you are on the plane.

Just sit back, grab a drink off the blonde-bimbo air hostess, and enjoy :D

Special Note- Airoplane toilets rule! Whoooooooosh!

I hate flying too!

I once did a 23 hour trip to Auz in Coach-Class. Nasty!

I did fall asleep God knows how (who can sleep on those things) when I woke up I was half a sleep and it was dark and I was feeling ... well ... horny ... so I put my hands up my over half skirt and start having a play like you do and things were getting all nice and welcoming, so I thought ... mmm trip to the john to join the mile high club.

Then I fully opened my eyes and released I had been fingering the bird sitting next to me on the other side to my girl-friend at the time. God I nearly died.

What made matters worse was my girl-friend woke up feeling all randy (she was a morning person) and I'm stuck between to horny birds. It was like a script from a carry-on film.

Fortunately my fear of flying saved me, we went through some terbulance and I pucked everywhere! Neither girl wanted to know me after that. Problem solved. I even got a free B.A. T shirt and trousers (because my other clothes were covered in sick) and an upgrade to world-traveller plus (because the seats where covered in sick)

The Wife cheered up after a few beer and afew days on Bronte Beach, but I never told her about the other bird ;-)

... she was cracking!

The only scary part of flying is if customs decide you look dodgy.

Then they look up your bum and play with your willy :/

What aload of shite but it cheered me up :)

btw ,cask I know how you feel. It isnt the fear of death it's the complete lack of control at 35,000 feet.

Alcohol makes it worse though.

Statistics mean nothing, smoke a couple of doobs first.

I've been in several semi-serious incidents in planes, from fires to dropping out of the sky. I'm still here, and you'll be fine. Have a cuppa (airplane tea is rancid but you know what I mean) and try to enjoy the good bits. I'm not too keen on turbulence and other aerobatics myself, but as long as there's no window to give me a point of reference then I'm fine with a coke and a book :)

I like flying.

The only problem I ever had was on a flight to Mauritius, there was a little turbulance + the rancid smell of the food = a little sickness. Then the pilot kinda dropped the plane on the landing - uh.. instead of a nice

Cask,

You should fly Hooters Airline. It would take your mind off the actual flying
