fluffy dilemma!!

AS some of you may know we lost out dear little guinea pig sprockett a little while ago and this leaves dear Pookie pig all alone,

what im wanting to know is whether it would be ok to get her some company, obviously a male GP is out of the question as we dont want a hord of the critters but she is like 3.5 years old now and we're wondering is she too old to mix with a new GP or even a rabbit.

I've heard mixed reviews on keeping rabbits and GPs together, some say they get on great but some say the rabbits can bully the GPs.

if anyone has any experience with this please help me.

If its not used to sharing then it could be a problem, do you know anyone that has a guinea pig that they could bring round to test? it would be a shame to get one and see them fight it out.

Don't get her a rabbit. They can't communicate, rabbits communicate with body language and (as I know all too well) guinea pigs are noisy little buggers. Not only that, a rabbit's hind legs are extremely strong and they can harm your little piggy. And to top it all off I was told that rabbits can carry diseases that harm piggies but not themselves.

I suggest you go to a guinea pig rescue and pick up a new female guinea pig or two to keep her company. Loadsa poor lil' piggies are in want of new homes! A lot of good rescues should try and bond them for you, thats the case with the rabbit rescues anyway.

I tried the rabbit-guinea combo before I knew better but Wesley's a big black bully and just chased them all over the run we'd set up. Its a good job we got three of them and they all live in a pretty cool cage we built ourselves.

I'd say get another female pig. But don't stick them together straight away, you have to introduce them, so that they get used to each other.

Do not get a rabbit and put it in the same cage with Pookie... My auntie had two GP's, both females, and they decided to get a rabbit and put it in the same kind of hutch thingy as the GP's, and one morning they went out and couldnt find the GP's anywhere, because the rabbit had kind of buried the poor little GP's underneath the smelly stuff.... (Not Poo).

I got 2 GP's and a rabbit for my wife, one GP died of something wasnt sure what.

The other GP we found dead after the rabbit had slept on it, think it may have crushed it in its sleep so i wouldnt recommend it.

I've had rabbits all my life, not one of them has ever needed to go the vets.

Though they did live in the garden, so it might be to do with just leaving them in the hutches or something..

All vet bill are expensive, try owning a horse lol! Rabbits if kept well can last for years. One of my rabbits was 12 before he died.

I really like little animals, we've bred over 30 pigs and 10 hammies. I'll have a chat to my mum when I next speak to her Ez, and I'll see what she says. Though I'm pretty sure your best bet if you want to introduce a new pig to another one is to do it slowly but steadily, I.e stick them both in the run together or have them out in your lap at the same time, then after a few times let them stay in the same hutch.

At one point we had two mums and their girls in a huge hutch and they loved it and in the other we had the daddy (he was a proper stud!) in with one of his boys (after we sold the others to the pet shop) and they get on really well!

lol no! im not getting pookie a snake, though she did tell me she wants a tortoise...

I think after examining the information the answer is definately not to get a rabbit lol (I'd be horrified if i woke up and found pookie buried!)

i'll ring the adoption place we got pookie and sprockett from originally and see if they have a girl of similar age and good temper.
