Hi All

I am about to take my driving theory test and start my driving lessons. I am a great person when it comes to cars and would like some advice please :)

I would love an old mini but I have seen the price of some of them and was quite shocked :eek7: I wouldnt mind a crappy one, that I can sort of do up and make my own

I quite like the older cars like MG's and that sort of a thing, cars similar to the ones on Heartbeat :)

I wouldnt really like to spend more than £1k as I would like to spend a bit on a few things for it (No Boys race shite) Plus I have to get insurance and stuff.

Anyway here are the basics.
£1k spend for car
Cheap Insurance
Cheap to Run

I know not a great deal to go on, but please im crap with cars :(

May I suggest a turquise(sp) 3 wheeler with a handlebar instead of a steering wheel.

I started off on a Fiesta 1.1, it was cheap to buy, run, insure and cheap for parts.

Your car that'll go like whoop ass will come soon...

Deffo a Fiesta, you'd be hard pressed to find a Saxo for under a grand, ax maybe.

See here.

I recommend an Escort Mk.II

That was my first car and it was muchos fun. :)

I don't know a whole lot about cars, but my first thought was "Ford Fiesta or Escort" I think because they're so ubiquitous and thus easy to find one for sale, the whole parts thing, and they're not overly large (trust me, having a long car for your first one isn't that fun when you ARE still getting the hang of judging distance when parking and performing other fine maneuvering).

If you want something old get an original VW Beetle, cheap to run insure and maintain. Was my first motor, although mine wasn't that old :/

A 1972 beetle was my first car too, picked it up for a nice £850 but then I got addicted and spent a load of cash doing it up, then blew up the engine, bought another engine spent some more cash and in the end spent a fortune! I then went on to buy a 1966 Karmann Ghia for about £6000, all because I bought a Beetle as my first car! So it's possibly not the best idea :p

Get a Fiesta, you can pick up a good cheap one and it doesn't take much to run.

Insurance is pretty good too. I've got a G-reg Fiesta and it's brill :)

If your going to go an old ford go for one of the OLD Capri's, very nice cars, should be in your price range.

You should really save your money and get an MG A Though, they are teh sex tbh

My first motah was a 1974 Mini Cooper which I bought at a far-less-than-bargain price from my mother.

Cant really recommend them enough tbh. Very small, super nippy and I would imagine you can get em now that are tax exempt. Plus if you fit some Mini-lite wheels and a Peco big bore, as well as a K&N filter, some arch extensions and de-seam the whole thing, it will make you look like an 80's child re-born. Paticularly if you have something like Snap's I Got the Powahhh blasting from your cassette player. :)

Alternativley, by a Clio. Theyre cheap and good.

I've heard Darth on CS voice comms.

May I suggest that we do not let this person have any car at all.

Picture a laughing, screaming maniac driving down your road and you will get the idea!

Its stuff that I did to mine when I was 17 (16 years ago dammit :()

I also fitted a full clock set-up with dials pinched from a scrap (at least I think it was scrap) Triumph Toledo up the road, oil pressure, oil temp volts, amps, and a few others which I cant remember.

What a car ;)

I started with a citroen AX, cheap cheerful and practically indistructible, head on collision with a volvo and it just bounced off whereas the volvo kinda fell apart. I then thought it would be both big and clever to buy a BMW which proceeded to bleed my bank account dry startlingly quickly!
