Is there any reason that fireworks should have been going off since 8PM last night?

Do these stupid fucks not realise it's supposed to be the 5th of Novemeber that you set them off.

Of course, it could be that Luton has been under bombardment since last night and I haven't noticed :D

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind fireworks, I don't even mind fireworks on the weekend before or after the 5th, makes sense. But come on, it's not even Halloween yet!!!

Sorry guys, in a bit of a ranting mood today.

Was working with a couple of guys from Sheffield last week, and apparently up there the kids are blowing up phone boxes with big mortar fireworks, time for some licensing I think.

The power of fireworks has grown since when I used em last.

Last night there was something that sounded much like what I think a mortar rounds sounds like. Shook the windows, and I nearly spilt my pint.

And shit my pants :(

Interesting, thanks Tom.

How many times do we hear the phrase 'a package of tough new measures' these days, that never actually amount to anything.

Also the biggest concern in her letter seems to be about the number of injuries to the scrotes, rather than the effect that it has on the rest of us law abiding people.

I was very impressed with the speed with which it came back, and she does mention some good proposals. I think she makes a good point about not banning them.

I saw some pissed teenagers letting off fireworks in a church's graveyard not long ago. :/

Fireworks are cool, if it's someone's birthday, or I'm expecting them...

But... when people in the 20 mile radius around you are constantly letting off fireworks for about 4 months it really does do your head in.

The last coupla years were hell - loads of shops round here sell fireworks and the local kids always managed to get hold of em.

Then a kid on the green spot up the road from me lit an air-bomb type firework and his brother went to pick it up and it exploded crushing his larynx - a passing nurse tried to resuscitate him but the kid was dead on arrival at A&E.

Since then our local MP has lead a campaign to try and ban non-display fireworks with a singular lack of sucess - theres a lot of money in fireworks and the industry is robust in its defence (and probably pays a few backhanders as many large industries do).

To be fair our local council has set up a hotline and it is a lot quieter this year so far - I doubt that will last though - people forget pretty quickly...

Rules are there for a reason. If it says don't pick it up even if it didn't go off, DON'T FUCKING PICK IT UP!

I'd feel sympathy for both, but in both cases they're still idiots aswell.

I blame whoever bought the fireworks for a child (which is actually illegal) - I presume it was one of the parents since no-one was ever charged over it...

In all honesty, I couldnt care less if they blow half their hand off from holding the firework too long. Screw them.

The only sympathy I do have is for the poor sod who is held up at casualty because the doctors are busy dealing with this little scumbag.

I live across the road from a pub - and for the past week, there's been a number of kids, ranging from 10 years old to 16, setting off fireworks by the wall of the pub. The pub is facing a main road, and I've noticed on more than one occasion the firework going across the road. The fact that they are setting them off in the day time means they are not there to 'enjoy' the firework for its original purpose, but to cause trouble because they like loud bangs and they know full well that it's dangerous and illegal.

So, what can be done? You call the police, who come and move them off only for the little twats to return 10 mins later with more fireworks. You go and tell them to fuck off and they shove a rocket thro the letterbox. You write to your local MP and you get a standard 'Thanks for your letter, now piss off annoying me, I have more important stuff to do'.

Personally, I'd like to obtain a high-powered sniper rifle and shoot every one of the little wankers in the head. But then I'd be arrested.

A friend at college was sick to death of kids mucking around near his house at night, when he was trying to sleep. A bucket of piss over their heads stopped them from returning.

True story that.

Why are they sold in shops from September onwards though? A simple solution would be to have them for sale for 2 days before. Any other occasions that merit fireworks can be supplied from licensed retailers.

The reason they are on sale ages before Nov 5th is the same reason why shops insist on putting up Christmas decorations / selling Christmas stuff when we're still only in October - to make more money.

The simple solution is to ban all fireworks that aren't for professional displays. You wanna see a display - write a letter to your council to organise one.

When I was younger I used to live with my parents in Herne Bay and down near the arcades on the seafront is chav central. One year I happened to be passing by and there were two groups of chavs firing rockets accross the road at each other while cars were trying to pass. Twats.

I agree that this is mad that ppl/kids are setting them off already. Its silly but we must admit we all had bangers weeks before we needed them :)
