Finnish Police Raid BitTorrent Site

Beware all ye who use bit torrent:

"Police in Finland have raided the operations of a popular BitTorrent file download site, seizing equipment and arresting four people who ran the site. Around 30 volunteers who helped moderate the site were also arrested.

Police say the site had 10,000 users, all Finnish, who downloaded illegally-copied content worth millions of euros. The site featured 6,000 torrents, including film, videos, music and games.

If convicted, the site operators face jail of up to two years and are liable for claims for damages from content owners."

is it actually a crime to link to torrents? they're not actually distributing the copyrighted material themselves.

They have already prosecuted users for downloaded MP3's from P2P sites. Torrents are the same thing. Its highly unlikely small time users downloading 2 songs a day or a movie a week are going to get busted. Its the big posters they want. Might all change in the future.

Well finnish law's funny that way.

First off, you don't need to let anyone in without the police.

The police itself has to have a warrant.

The warrant will be given only in serious crime suspicions.

You think downloadig a couple of gigs of tv shows and such counts?

Not to mention that a HD comes off in seconds and they can't really prove anything without.

im pretty sure this was ******bay (censored by me) and it was ages ago. and that site is still running. im unsure how they were prosecuted. they are a tracker of the files, not a distributor.

for example, tracking people who sell drugs and selling drugs are two different thing.

yeh me3, however people could say mp3s/dvd-rips is just like borrowing from a extended freind, but i guess there not really comparible cause 1 is free and the other isn't, aslong as tv-rips dont get banned im fine -even though ill download anyway
