In the interests of maybe having some people to group with hanging around at the obelisks thought I'd give a level guide to the catacombs areas (no, not the task dungeons, the bit underground incase you've not found it yet)

To get into the main catacombs areas:

Camelot, head towards the north gate but don't leave the city. On the east side is a pipe sticking out of the wall. This takes you into:

Roman Aqueducts:
Monsters of level 0 to 27, loads of miniquests from the guards near the entrance (and also poor Staarzi located by the normal entrance to the Inconnu Crypt)

/map works - use it!

Two instance dungeons, one near the camelot entrance (south, west, south, south, looks like an air raid shelter door on the left) Adjusts from 4 level 10s to 4 level 18s.

Second towards the inconnu crypt entrance after going down the main drain.

Obelisks: This is the first obelisk - superb things for getting around the place, situated at the top of the main drain in the aqueducts (and marked on your map) this will take you quickly to the Inconnu crypt to train or whatever.
Right click to activate them, and you'll be able to return to it from the inconnu crypt.

(NB. some obelisks are one-way, and are only useable to return to the crypt, I'll mention these in the later zones)

Inconnu crypt:

Whether you take the obelisk here or take a long walk through the aqueducts on some quest you'll come to the Catacombs City for Albion: The inconnu crypt.

Entering from the roman aqueducts there's a corridor leading north - the east branch leads to the abandoned mines, the north branch to the main city hall.

The city hall has the aurulite merchants on the inside, and standing around outside are class trainers for all the classes. On the west side is an obelisk (right click it to port to any other obelisks you've activated, plus to activate it so you can port there directly from the Channeler in camelot).

North of the city hall a corridor leads to the Deadlands of Annwn, west of the city hall across the bridges is a bindstone, a healer and a hastener (great place to bind for getting back to anywhere in catacombs - run across a bridge, obelisk port to wherever yer going to and run on hastener speed to your end destination). Also in the west segment are merchants: the north part has armour merchants (and an arrow merchant outside the door), the middle part sells weapons and the south part sells craft goods and dyes.

There's quests in here from level 1 to your 40s, so keep an eye out for yellow circles (or talk to the travellers).

The obelisk in here should be the meeting place for a catacombs xp group, since it's so quick to get anywhere else.

Thanks, can't believe how little info is out there on Catacombs... the tip of activating the Obilisks rocks /em points to blonde hair :)

(note: not entirely sure on the level ranges for the instances in all these zones - if anyone has tested them (go in with a level 1 and see what it says, go in with a 50) can they post?)

Deadlands of Annwn

This is a zone with monsters starting around level 20 up to the high 30s, some nice named lurking around here (I won't say where or what though - you'll have to go find them ;)) which drop some good named level 30 gear with catacombs bonuses (there's also a fellow that drops level 40 stuff wandering around)

Lots of quests again from the inconnu around the entrance from the crypt.

In the sw corner (use that /map!) there is an entrance to the level 35+ Lower Crypt zone (will outline this later). Outside the door is a two-way obelisk, right click to activate.

No instances in this zone.

Abandoned Mines

Heading out of the inconnu crypt to the southeast is the abandoned mines. The home of the tenebrae and a number of gnolls and half-orcs.

As well has having monsters from levels 17 to 37 to kill, a number of quests from the inconnu dotted around the place, some named (Grayfur, Snaggletooth, Cysgod) this also has exits to all the old world dungeons (mithra, keltoi, tepoks, catacombs of carvoda, barrows) and the Glashtin Forge a goblin infested catacombs dungeon.

There's also an exit to just outside Camelot in the Camelot hills, and to the north black mountains just above snowdonia station.

The mine carts allow you to travel around this place quite quickly (carts leave from the top of the main pit and travel clockwise around and leave you at the bottom of the pit).

It's hard to miss the main pit as you enter from the crypt - big fecking hole in the ground - at the bottom is the obelisk (two-way) - activate by right clicking and you can get from camelot to any old world dungeon after two ports and a short run.

There are two instances in this dungeon, a level 25ish (for 4 people) one filled with half-orcs and a level 30ish one with tenebrae monster generators (fun dungeon that :) think Gauntlet).

In the southwest corner is the entrance to the glashtin forges (from the top of the pit go to the tunnel leading south (the "west track") take two carts and head west).

Glashtin Forges

Home of the goblins and Morgana's weapon forges, this is a completely hostile zone - no friendly NPCs around.

A level 25 to 40 zone, there's a few named NPCs that drop nice goblin items for around level 40-45 (including the Forgemaster Gomagatsu)

Two instances lead off of this dungeon, for half-groups of around level 30ish and 40ish.

There is an obelisk in the main forge room in this zone but it's a one-way only - you can't teleport into here, just teleport back out.

In the northeast of the zone is an exit to the Underground Forest.

This is probably the easiest route to take to get to the Underground Forest and activate it's obelisk (which should be the hub for all 40+ levelling in catacombs), from the crypt to the mines to the forges to the forest. You can go via the Lower Crypt but there's higher level aggro. YMMV.

Underground Forest

Filled with terracites and nasty aggro spiders (along with the neutral mossy sprite things that I feel bad when I kill) this isn't a completely hostile zone - there's a camp of inconnu and others in the northwest corner along with a very very useful obelisk (two-way, hurrah, right click to activate it then when you try to join a Dark spire group you won't have ot tell them "wait 30m whilst I get my arse there through three dungeons")

Loads of quests to be had at the nw camp.

Monsters here for levels 35+ though there's not an awful lot past level 45 (better hunting in the adjacent zones)

Exits lead to the north side of the Lower Crypt (the south side connects back to the deadlands of annwn), back to the Glashtin Forges, the albion version of the Frontlines, the albion version of The Otherworld and the Dark Spire.

No instances in this zone.

Lower Crypt

The evil corrupted version of the inconnu crypt, not a huge zone and actually fairly easy to navigate given the amount of aggro around - the aggro range is quite small so you can sneak past most of the monsters without being killed if yer lucky.

There's two instances, one near the south exit to the Deadlands (for around level 40ish) and one in the northeast corner. One named fellow that drops loot (the others are for quests) in the northeast corner (around level 45+ was a good challenge for a half group of 50s) just outside the northeast instance.

There is an obelisk in the middle of the zone but it's one-way only (good escape if you happen to annoy all those inconnu gathered on the same platform). The sentinels in here are nice for focusing on as a heretic ;) stupid archers

Monsters range from about 35 to 60+ (some purples) and the camp bonus is great (though maybe not if everyone and their dog come along to xp of course)

This zone has exits to the Deadland and the Underground Forest and can be used to get from the Inconnu crypt to the UF but I find the forges an easier route.

Frontlines

Our version of the mid zone - filled with mad kobolds (monsters not players - there's no RvR in catacombs), some named and an instance that starts at 4 level 49s (Snarg's Grotto) and goes on forever... good loot at the end though.

Great zone for level 40+ and still challenging at level 50. There's an obelisk right at the entrance but it's one-way yet again, so just an escape from the horde of crazy chanting runemasters. Some named monsters around level 45ish and a big purple named fellow deep within Nyttheim at the southern end of the zone.

Only exit is back to Underground Forest.

Otherworld

Our version of the hib zone - looks like the surface of Mars, very cool place to visit.

Much like the frontlines for what's around to kill (back in beta the aggro was a bit nuts though - not sure if we have the patch that fixes it yet though - think it was a later 1.73 patch which we'd have but might be in 1.74).

A few high level named hiding in the queens labyrinth in the southeast corner of the zone along with another level 49+ instance with presumably some nice loot at the end.

Only exit is back out to the Underground Forest.

Dark spire

The Caer Sidi of Catacombs - except you only get to bring 7 friends instead of 70.

Filled with lots (and lots and lots) of purple crazy monsters, with named and lewt and crystals and weird stuff I'd recommend taking a well tooled out group of 50s in here... though if yer level 45 and get in one of these groups the XP is nifty.

Won't put much about it as I've not made it to the end yet and I wouldn't wanna spoil it for anyone even if I had. Plus if you really want a darkspire guide there's plenty on VN. There is nice loot that drops in there though :)

This zone is instanced btw so you need to be in the group to get into the same version as your friends (you can /invite across zones now though). But it does mean that we don't need a Dark Spire booking thread and you won't find some necromancer in there farming it already - or rather if they are then you get your own instance anyway...

Artifact XP

Catacombs brings a few more places to get artifact XP but it's not massively clear to everyone so here's an explanation:

Arifacts which get XP in SI dungeons or Mainland dungeons will get XP in the instances off of the old world dungeons (of which there are 2 in each) - i.e. the Lost Wing in Barrows.

Artifacts which get XP in ToA Dungeons (e.g. Guard of Valour) will get XP in the instance soff of the catacombs zones (e.g. the ones off of the lower crypt/frontlines/otherworld)

Unfortunately you won't gain artifact xp in Dark Spire :(

Hope this thread is of of use to someone, and hopefully we'll see some level 40 groups gathering around the UF obelisk rather than the AC entrance for a change :)

Instanced Task Dungeons 101:

Scattered about the realm are several toons called Taskmasters. These task masters have a level range they support. Near each of these taskmasters (normally less than a 30s run) is a dungeon.

If you go to the dungeon w/out going to the taskmaster, you will receive a message stating "You need permission to enter this zone". Once you've spoken w/ the Taskmaster, he will give you the option of performing a task in a nearby dungeon (normally, it's either kill X of a specific mob, kill a named specific mob, or clear the dungeon completely).Come 1.74 to make life a bit easier for casters: You will also be given the option of either the maze like dungeons w/ lots of twists and turns, or the long corridor types for ranged classes.

Get your task, and head to the dungeon. Once you zone in, you'll be in an instanced dungeon where the mobs will spawn relative to your level (normally low yellow or high blue). When I did my instance runs, these dungeons had a base 50% instanced bonus to xp, do these kills are *very* worthwhile, and xp scales pretty well w/ your level.

Once you complete your task in the dungeon, you will be awarded an additional chunk of xp in addition to the xp you've gotten from killing the mobs in the dungeon.

A couple of things:

- These are considered 'tasks', and abide by the 120 min time limit. Most of these can be cleared in 10-15 minutes tops, so that won't be an issue unless you go afk

- If you die, zone out, or LD, you will fail the task. This means you'll need to go back to the Taskmaster in order to get a new task and get back into the dungeon.

Taskmaster locations and levels:

Albion Taskmasters

Levels 1-10 Taskmaster Traint (Cotswold)
Levels 11-20 Taskmaster Prairdred (Prydwen Keep)
Levels 21-30 Taskmaster Lucir (Avalong Marsh)
Levels 31-40 Taskmaster Mairlin (Caer Ulfwych)
Levels 41-50 Taskmaster Trudan (Castle Sauvage)

Hibernia Taskmasters

Levels 1-10 Taskmaster Seviria (Mag Mell)
Levels 11-20 Taskmaster Nelarid (Howth)
Levels 21-30 Taskmaster Jeryd (Tir na mBeo)
Levels 31-40 Taskmaster Praest (Outside of Tir na Nog)
Levels 41-50 Taskmaster Vaellyn (Druim Ligen)

Midgard Taskmasters

Levels 1-10 Taskmaster Bernard (Mularn)
Levels 11-20 Taskmaster Cheri (Audliten)
Levels 21-30 Taskmaster Bisil (Gna Faste)
Levels 31-40 Taskmaster Domli (Haggerfel)
Levels 41-50 Taskmaster Trinnan (Svausud Faste)

If you speak to any Taskmaster, and you are not of the correct level range to do a task from that particular Taskmaster, they will direct you to the appropriate town and Taskmaster you can get one from.

and how do you defeat Snarg? :p Tried that instance once with a group, and we had no problem getting there, untill Snarg

been to every part of catas.. killed every named mob myself / my grp could kill.. can pretty much say there isnt much we dont know about catas. there are literally 10-20 named mobs in frontlines and if you cant kill half of them at lvl 50 u need shooting.. just look in the back left corner as u enter the dungeon and go kill the capital letter mobs.. not teh uber drops but not teh cr@p drops eitha. the further down u go the harder the mobs.. lets c u all get down to the bottom and kill the lot to get at the big guy in the bottom of neith :p took my grp about 2 hours.. lol.. altho we were hunting anything with a name.. :D
