So, any ideas?

To answer a few:

Yes i've re-installed.
No, there's no firefox process.
No, there's no "nasties" in my system.

I hate exploder with it's non-alpha textures and non-"one browser, manypage" function....

Try Opera. Or IE7.

I'd like to say "Oh sure, that's a wonderful idea i never thought of.", but i have to say...i don't want to change the operation system, if i did, then the question would've been "what other browser to use", or some such.

But thanks for the input, and will come i handy if this problem persists.

ctrl - alt - delete find firefox in processes then end it?? that error happened to me . and that worked like a charm :)

No need to be nasty, but it's true, i did try all the usual suspects like restarts (pre-after re-install). Gamer and work with comps daily, so i'm not that kind of a techieproblem person.

I guess "re-install" inculdes a prior "UN-install", not just a "plug it in again"?!
At any rate, try a registry cleaner and see whether there are some bits of Firefox left somewhere deep inside your .. well.. registry.

There are a couple of free reg-cleaners out there, for example:

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner: Safely scan and repair registry problems - Spyware FREE.

I`m affraid that´s the best I can come up with, except the good old "wipe Windows" trick.

have you checked in msconfig to see if there are any processes that may be losely related either to firefox or to html in some way? could be something calling part of firefox, either to render html or something like the bug reporting part of firefox or something.
Also, is it the latest stable release you're using, or is it a test/beta release? have you tried one of the other release types?

Aye, ripped it out with a pair of cyberpliers and a hammer.

I'll try that cleaner thingy(new for me), might fix a few other problems too. Which would be nice.

A windows wipe wouldn't be a new thing, did it just a month ago when something happened with something and windows wouldn't start.

My computart is such a ...tart sometimes.

This has happened to me a few times with Firefox in Linux (but never in Windows so far for me). Its fairly simple to fix and I found link that explains it here:
Profile in use - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

Just look for a lock file in your Mozilla folder and delete it and that should allow you to start Mozilla normally. I am slightly surprised that a re-instillation didn't fix it but then I don't know very much about how windows works.

Thorwyn[B&Q], even if a good idea and well worth the effort(found a bunch of needless stuff), didn't fix it.

Fiddling about as we speak.

Next step is either the "old versoin of Firefox", or what Cadelin is suggesting. Which also seems logical.

Guess magnet to hard drive is a bit ott?

Not too far off soon...

One other option (Sorry I wasn't on earlier btw).

Go into system tools -> System Info.

Check the Running tasks for a firefox file (Could be something writen to another file that keeps bringing it back up). Find were its located, and delete (provided you havent reinstalled it).

But plastic explosives to hard drive still a fair way off? :(

Well i dunno, it was almost that since:

Fixed the problem.

%APPDATA% in "run".
Delete all it lets you (hey, can always re-install)
Run firefox and *fanfare*

Works like a "charm" again.

Thanks for all the help, reps inc all around.
