Anyone played it, if so, how does it compare to previous FF's, and most importantly FF7? ~

It doesn't even get close to ff7. :p

It's just one of those games they throw out to keep the crowd happy in wait for ff12, not very well designed etc.
But for any true FF-fan I guess its worth it, would've bought it myself if I weren't a poor student. :(

Heh, you don't control one character in FF12 though.

I will explain in one easy to read reply as im bored..

Why FF7 is regarded as the best.

FF7 is regarded as the best because of normally 2 things, The story and Sephiroth... However.. Only complete wanker fanboys like Sephiroth, when u look at it hes nothing special at all, hes the stereotypical japanese anime bad guy, long black cloak and the white hair, he doesnt even DO much in FF7 tbh, turns up a bit , waffles a tiny bit then buggers off till the end. And as for the story, its convulted, gets too complicated later and when u actually go back and look at it now, its not that good at all...

But.. When comparing to FF8 FF9 and FF10 (and x2) , it beats them for a few good reasons. Firstly, the characters in FF7 were actually likeable, Cloud himself is a bit of a dick, hes the stereotypical moody tosspott hero who eventually turns out to start to like people and fight for a good reason , but then u have the others, Barrett, whoever thought of putting BA Barracus in a game with a gun on his hand was a genius, his personality, along with Cids (Imo the best char in FF7) are worth it alone, then the Turks... Best bad guy grp in any RPG for pure coolness , and each likeable, Tifa and Aeris ar ea bit plain but likeable nonetheless, fanboys can jack off over Tifa's jugs, and ofc Aeris's Death was a master-stroke too. Vincent, just oozes cool (haha now i sound like a fanboy) , Red XII was a interesting char too, the game itself as a whole, the Introduction of summons (who can forget knights of the round table) was groundbreaking at the time, and the amount of mini games on offer too, the whole thing was overal very enjoyable..

Unfourtunatly 8 9 and 10 , the characters werent as good, 8 (Which i actually myself prefer) wasnt too most peoples tastes due to the Real life type models, and generally it didnt have sephiroth in it so most dismissed it. 9 was a joke, Steiner was the only good character, and the End boss was abysmal, it had nothing to do with the fucking game for gods sake !! . 10, well some love it, personally for me it lacked the personality of 7 by far .. pretty graphics but boring chars and very linear .. x2 , well lets try not to even mention that ..

In the end its probably down to the Characters and the fact as 7 was for most people the First FF game they played (apart from hardcore importers) , it seemed so massivly magical at the time, the others didnt have that spark..

Dirge of Cerberus... From what i saw of it, looked like it was rushed out, its a soddin shoot-em up, its as someone said, its a filler, till the next big FF game, just a cash in, most mags slated it, i dont think much of it myself, tho the Cutscenes are of Advent Children quality , so they got something right.

Well, im just waiting for a Turks spin off (Not interested in before crisis cos its a stupid mobile phone game) but i doubt theyll do one.

Well ofc its only my oppinion, but yeah as i first stated, most people loved FF7 cos of Sephiroth... but then they r idiots :)

Whats wrong with liking it because of Sephiroth,
alot of people who played and liked FF7 dont even watch anime so fail to see how "they r idiots", for thinking he was a cool character with a leet sword

Personally prefered the captain, cant remember his name as i changed them all ><, but doesnt make them any the less a compelling for liking it because of Sephiroth

^ Give that guy a medal. :)

And I did attempt to get everyones final weapons/final and hidden summons in 10, but even in doing that you still have a game smaller than 7. Now, if you go for getting everyones final weapons, hidden materia, level5 summons through 7, it's frigging huge :p

He's called Cid btw Chronic. Btw has anyone else noticed, there's a Cid in every single FF? Character in 7, Headmaster in 8 etc etc...

Very well summed up Knighthood, agree with all your points except that I hated Steiner aswell, FF9 was pure crap, sorry for saying it out loud. :(

I never said FF7 was the best, I just asked how it compared to FF7 since Dirge of Cerberus is linked to it.

I've played FF7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2, 11 and 12 though. Story-wise I'd have to say 7 is the best, followed closely by 12. I didn't like 8, couldn't stand the magic system at all. 9 was decent, definatley one of the best, 10 was good fun but wasn't a challenge at all, walked through it really easily (last fight vs Jecht, anyone?), 10-2 totally sucked as did 11.

Lots of people think 7 is the best because it was their first FF experience.

Sorry? Mind summing up the points that made you come to that?

Don't mean that in aggressive manner, I just can't see how on earth you came to that suggestion.

Thx i try my best :)

Steiner was the comedy relief :) Thats why hes the only char i liked hehe.

Havnt played 11 yet (or is it 12 arrgh) but tbh the characters look a bit homo-erotic so i dunno if i will, the new battle system looks ass too. But we'll wait and see. Was also interested in Crisis Core for the Psp , looks rather good, but i dunno when (if) that gets an english release

Final Fantasy 11 is the MMORPG. Final Fantasy 12 is the latest and last FF game (bar shitty placeholders such as FFX-2/Dirge of Cerberus) to be released on the PS2.

The characters are well made and the voice acting is excellent, unfortunatley about half way through the game some characters are just pushed aside and don't play a role in the story anymore, the ending scene is a disappointment (to say the least, without including spoilers). It's also a shame there's no "love story" in the game, the love story element played a huge part in previous FF's.

As for the combat system, it takes a little getting used too if you haven't played FF11, as that's where it's from, just changed slightly to suit single-player. I didn't like it at first, but after about 10 hours of gameplay I really started to like it. Basically, you actively play one character whilst your other two characters are using a "gambit" system, kinda like permanent macros. (you're able to edit the gambits into great detail, you can set a character to heal your party member who's on <1,000 HP, <-20% hp, keep haste up, etc). You can always decide not to use gambits at all though, personally I prefer to control one character and have two using gambits, though if you really want to keep the battle system as oldskool as possible then having them off is an idea, you should also lower the speed of the combat in the configuration for that (I have mine on default).

Have to say i liked 8 this far, have only completed 7, but 8 had that...rough in it.

The human to human relations were better(read great drama), the storyline darker and it just hit better. 7, 9(neverplayed), X's...the basic candystyle. Which is good, i love the FF style and the comicue style they tend to have, but as a game driven so much on emotion, storyline and connection emotionally to the player, 8 hit me the hardest.

Only thing I disliked about 8 is that its too easy. :( Played it through a month ago or so and didn't die a single time. Needless to say I spent alot of time drawing magic, so it's open to some "abuse" or what u wanna call it, but still. It's deffo one of the best.
