film noir...

for part of my film coursework, i need to do a microstudy of a pre-1950's film noir from a large hollywood studio. if anyone could give me some good examples that i may have missed, it would be much appreciated. i've already noted down most of the imdb recommendations.

strangelove was post 1950, king kong isn't film noir, nosferatu is german and gone with the wind is far far too long for me to study properly, i'll die of boredom.

can't do casablanca or sunset blvd as we've studied them already.

You can't reference Wikipedia, for obvious reasons, but it's a good start if you're looking for films of the period.

Several great films already mentioned, in particular "The Big Sleep".
Shame about the date because "A touch of Evil" is probably my favourite film noir.

Couple of others: Scarface ( 1932 ), The Killers ( 1946 ), The Lady from Shangai ( another Orson Welles - 1947 ).
